What we've been up to ....

What we've been up to ....

Summer is in full swing and we hope the kids are having the best time and keeping active! We had such a great time at our 2022 Spring Performance (BACK ON STAGE!) and leaped right into our summer sessions and camps. All the kids here have been having a blast! We still have one dance camp, summer private lessons, and a portion of the summer classes still available for the summer to keep the kids busy and moving & grooving into the right direction!


DVDs from the 2022 Spring Performance, "Our Most Magical Celebration", are currently being processed. They finished editing the master copy a couple of weeks ago and said they were working on filling the orders. Thank you for your patience with the videos ...it's definitely not an easy task with almost 60 numbers, multiple camera angles, and all of the editing and sound that goes into them. Special Effects Video usually states it takes 8-12 weeks from performance for them to be ready, so they should be contacting everyone who ordered very soon. If you did not get a chance to order a DVD/BlueRay, it is not too late. We have order forms in the front lobby or you can contact them directly through email/direct message/phone to place an order. Copies of previous shows are also available to order at any time, which is also a great option that they offer.

* We still have several families that have not picked up their 2021 Spring SHOWCASE dvd/bluerays, "NOW, that's what I call DANCE!". Emails were sent out several times to pick these up after our outside venue showcases, but we have quite a few still in hand. If you're not sure IF/what you ordered, or if a family member has picked your copy up yet, send us a quick email and we will check our list.


Our Company team headed to Connecticut in June for our NorthEast Finals national dance competition and brought back over 38 Double Platinums, Platinums, overalls, high scores and even got a call back for the Livestream, Top 10 large groups AND got chosen to dance again! They did so well and we couldn't have been prouder of their hard work and dedication! Our families that went were amazing and determined to get the kids to Connecticut after a last minute cancellation of our PA Finals made for itinerary and travel changes to Connecticut... (11 hours by train and then a charter bus to the venue) with their luggage AND dance costume/shoe luggage. WOW!! What a group! Give them a high-5 if you see them!


This summer, GJDC is an official sponsor of the Tri-City Chili Peppers baseball team, right here in Colonial Heights at Shepherd Stadium! There are still a few games left in their season and we'd love to see you there! Come by our Genia Johnson Dance Company, Inc suite behind 1st base and say hello!! You may also see our GJDC BOOSTERS parents working the food tents, grill and ice cream stand along with our GJDC students assisting and running food! Say hi and give them a high-5 ( or a high kick) for their hard work supporting the GJDC Company team.


So much happening at GJDC right now! We are so looking forward to a new dance season and lots of fun, exciting opportunities for our students and families.

Pre-Registration PopUp - Wednesday, July 27th/5-8pm & Sidewalk Sale by the GJDC Booster parents!!

Pre-Registration for the 2022-2023 dance season will be Wednesday night from 5-8pm in house only. We will have a TENTATIVE schedule available to view and you will be able to choose your classes for next year and hold your spot(s) for your dancer if you wish. This is also for us to get an idea of what classes everyone will be wanting to take for the upcoming season. This is ONLY open to those that are current students of the 2021-2022 FALL and Summer dance season so that you guys get first dibs on classes before they fill, and we can see what classes need to be added to the schedule (since some dancers will be changing levels or aging out of certain classes). Do not fret if you cannot be here, there will be plenty of time to register your child. We will have our online registration opening the first week in August, and will have the set schedule available to current students at that time.


FAQs:

How do I save my child's spot in class(es)?

You will fill out your dancer's paperwork and update any information, let us know what classes they would like to take (i.e. ballet, tap, jazz), choose your payment plan (if any) and make the initial payment to hold the spot. This will go toward your tuition plan's 1st month payment and auto drafting will start in September.


What if I'm still paying on my current season's payment plan/ 12 month plan?

You will still be auto drafted from the card on file until your 2021-2022 tuition plan is paid in full per usual. You may pay for pre-registration with a cc, cash or check for the 22-23 dance season. *We will not be able to run the card on file in the system until all accounts are closed for the past season. We will have to run an actual card for payment.


I am working around several other activities for the Fall and need a set schedule. Will this schedule change?

This is PRE-Registration and the schedule (days/time) and teachers are tentative. From year to year, people age out or change what style they sign up for. We have to account for that and sometimes need to add classes/levels/age groupings, etc in to accommodate. If you need a set schedule, it will be out the first part of August and we recommend waiting to register until then.


What if I sign up for a class and the schedule changes? Can I move days/times or change styles?

Yes! Absolutely! When we send out the Fall set schedule, if you notice something has changed, been added, etc that would better fit your family, simply email or call the studio and we can change it. Families will be notified if a class is moved after registering.

Welcome Baby Zee !!


Zee Estelle White was born early on Sunday, July 17th! She couldn't wait for her spotlight!!

Mrs Meredith and baby are doing wonderfully and the family is just smitten with her! We can't wait to all meet her ... Congratulations! <3



Miss Christina:


Miss Christina will be attending the University of Maryland College Park in the Fall to obtain her Masters of Fine Arts in Dance hoping to become a college professor and dance educator. She loves GJDC and will miss everyone so very much. She will come visit on breaks and whenever she can to help out at GJDC. We will miss you so much but are SO very proud of you! Congratulations!
