Staff Changes in the Plainfield School Corporation
At the school board meeting, several staffing changes were approved, and we wanted to share the news with our school families at the same time we're sharing it online. These are exciting and positive changes for our district and we hope you'll join us in congratulating everyone involved in these long-term, strategic moves. What follows is the official announcement.
At it’s monthly meeting, the Board of School Trustees of the Plainfield Community School Corporation tonight approved several personnel changes that will take effect over the next 18 months.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Mary Giesting will, beginning July 1, 2018, move to the newly created role of Director of the Imagination Lab. Mary has been instrumental in the vision and development of the Imagination Lab, and her passion for this first-of-its-kind elementary center will ensure its success.
Former PHS teacher and instructional coach, Tracy Ballinger, returns to Plainfield this July, as the Administrative Assistant for the Imagination Lab. Tracy will oversee the day-to-day details of planning curriculum, ordering equipment and supplies, developing schedules and working with teachers to prepare for its opening in the Fall of 2018.
PCMS Principal Pat Cooney will transition to Assistant Superintendent, Student Learning, over the next 18 months, with the title becoming official July 1, 2018.
Replacing Pat at the middle school will be Kyle Tutterow, current Assistant Principal for Student Learning. A search will begin in Spring 2018 for a new assistant principal at PCMS.
“While the concept for the Imagination Lab grew out of ongoing discussions about changing the focus of student engagement,” stated Superintendent Scott Olinger, “Mary has taken the concept to new levels. She is the perfect leader to oversee the launch of the Imagination Lab, which is a rare opportunity to create something from nothing,” he added.

Student Health & Wellness Reminders
As part of our desire for a healthy 2017, here are a couple of basic reminders . . .
If your child is not feeling well, please keep them home until they are no longer contagious. It is not fair to the others who get to be around them when they are ill. In order to kill infectious germs, remember to allow soap to remain on the skin for at least 20 seconds. Frequent hand washing and an effort not to touch their faces while at school are great habits for you to reinforce at home.
Another measure you can take at home is to be vigilant for signs of head lice. We recommend checking your child’s head every week or two. Here are some tips:
Under bright light begin looking at the back of the head just above the neck area.
Part the hair section by section and look closely for crawling lice or nits (eggs).
You can tell the difference between nits and dandruff or fuzz by trying to remove the white speck. A nit is actually glued to the hair.
If you do see nits in your child's hair, make sure to look more carefully on the scalp behind the ears and at the nape of the neck for crawling lice.
Depending on the length and thickness of the hair, it should take between 5 and 15 minutes to properly inspect a child's head.
Let’s do what we can to keep these young ones healthy. Thank you for allowing us to work with your student. We are looking forward to many opportunities for learning this year!

No Birthday/Celebration Treats in School
We know you want to celebrate special days such as birthdays with your child's class, however, our handbook states this is not allowed at Brentwood. Please refrain from sending any classroom treats in to school. This is NOT a new policy. We will continue to offer special days throughout the year where our teachers and PTO plan fun activities for our students (during school hours as well as outside of school hours).
Thank you for your assistance as we continue to enforce the rules set forth in our handbook.
