Spring Hill ISD
District Newsletter - September 2023
A Message From The Superintendent
Dear School Community,
As we kicked off the 2023-24 school year with district convocation, I presented information to our staff on the power of positivity. American author John Maxwell shares the following thoughts on positive attitude and thinking:
We have control of our inward attitude; therefore, we can choose to be positive.
Positive thinking and positive attitude are a choice; the difference maker in life.
Attitude is not everything, but it is the main thing.
A positive life-stance promotes success and accomplishment.
At Spring Hill ISD we recognize the power of positivity and are working intentionally to maintain and strengthen positive school culture. With our school community working together through positive relationships, the sky's the limit on the great things we will accomplish.
We firmly believe our best days are ahead at Spring Hill ISD!
Always Panther Proud!
Sincerely,
Penny Fleet

Spring Hill High School Senior Lily Cooper has been recognized as a Semifinalist in the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program. Lily is one of 16,000 Semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, which represents less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. These academically talented high school seniors will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth $28 million.
Spring Hill Students Named College Board National Recognition Program Awardees
Students at Spring Hill High School have earned recognition from the College Board’s National Recognition Programs for academic achievements in school and outstanding performance on College Board assessments.
Awardees at Spring Hill High School are Ana Pecina - National Hispanic Recognition Award, Ananiah Selassie - National African American Recognition Award, and Prince Otujor - National African American Recognition Award.
The National Recognition Programs honor the strong academic achievements of underrepresented students. These honors can be included on college and scholarship applications and connect students with universities across the country, helping them meaningfully connect to colleges and stand out during the admissions process.
“We’re excited our students have earned this recognition,” said Principal Melinda Tidwell. “We are very proud of them for their achievements in the classroom and on College Board assessments.”
Students who may be eligible have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have excelled on the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10, or earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP Exams; and are African American or Black, Hispanic American or Latino, Indigenous or Native, and/or attend school in a rural area or small town.
Spring Hill celebrated Homecoming on September 15 with a spirited pep rally and football game. Carolann Bowles was crowned Homecoming Queen, and several Spring Hill classes celebrated their alma mater with class reunions.
Start With Hello Week
Spring Hill schools took part in National Start With Hello Week. Start With Hello Week encourages students to make a difference with their peers through small but powerful actions that promote a connected community of learners so that no one ever feels alone.
“Start With Hello Week activities are designed to make students feel important and to create a sense of belonging among classmates,” said Amy Doron, Spring Hill Primary Student Services Coordinator.
Some of the activities include wearing green as a reminder to go out and help make other students feel special, decorating name tags, and smiling to say hello.
SHJH Students Visit Windridge Therapeutic Equestrian Center
Melissa Haney's Spring Hill Junior High College/Career Readiness - Leadership classes recently visited Windridge Therapeutic Center as a service project. The SHJH students cleaned horse stalls and sanded fences to prep them for painting, helping Windridge provide therapy patients with a safe and clean riding experience.
"When I found out that Cecelia Bower, the Director of Windridge therapeutic equestrian center, needed help cleaning the horse stalls and sanding down the rails for painting there, I asked her if my kids could help her," said Haney. "I talked to my students and they were more than glad to help. I am so blessed to have such willing students that want to serve others."
