A Message From Principal Choquette 1/24/19
Well, we finally received some significant snow which means this is a good time to remind all families that students will not be allowed to play in the snow unless they have the proper clothing (snow pants, coats, hats, gloves/mittens, and boots). If students are not dressed appropriately, they will only be able to play on the sidewalk. With the warmer temperatures things are melting and the kids get soaked making them cold when they come inside and distracted during learning. In addition, we have seen an increase in the amount of students coming to school dressed inappropriately for the cold temperatures (no coats, tank tops, t-shirts, shorts, etc.). Students need to dress for the colder temperatures and may be asked to come inside if they are not dressed appropriately. Thank you for your cooperation with this. If your child needs clothes, we have a coat rack for borrowing outside of the first grade classrooms by the elevator that has coats, snow pants, boots, etc. Thank you to all who have donated to it.
Girls on the Run (GOTR) is returning to Bridge Street School again this Spring and we are looking for two more volunteer coaches to help!
GOTR is an innovative after school program that inspires girls to be joyful, confident and healthy. The curriculum encourages the girls to recognize their individual strengths and celebrate connections with others. It’s all about girl power and no running experience is necessary!
Before we can open registration for our 3-5th grade BSS girls, we need help recruiting volunteer coaches who can be at the practices.
Coaches are trained, supported and given all supplies needed to have a successful season. Coaches can be a parents or local community members (doesn’t just have to be a BSS person).
Practices meet twice a week from March 11th-June 2nd after school at Bridge Street school on Mondays and Fridays from 3:00-4:30pm.
And, if you are enrolled in BASE, you can pro-rate that session and do both programs seamlessly!
If interested or would like to learn more, please reach out Bridge St parent and volunteer coach Alex Russell: alexandra.russellb@gmail.com or GOTR program director Molly Hoyt: molly.hoyt@girlsontherun.org / 413-320-1845.
Our deadline for finding coaches (and launching the program) is January 30th and then we’ll open registration.
BASE students interested in participating in the Girls on the Run program can receive a pro-rated tuition for the weeks that the two programs overlap. Start the session with BASE... finish it with Girls on the Run. Contact Keddie Loughrey for more information.
Lastly, the community, Ward 3, and our school community lost a very special friend, Jerry Budgar. Jerry was a huge supporter of our school and was extremely active in the community. He was a former member of our school council and played an important role in organizing our 100th year celebration. Please keep Jerry’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. He will be missed.
Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.

The budget process for the Northampton Public Schools has begun. It is very important that your voice is heard and that we get your input into the budget for next year. Below is the link to the district website where, on the homepage, you can find the budget survey that Dr. Provost is asking people to fill out. It only takes a few minutes, and we want to hear from you.
