Room 52 Celebrates Global Play Day
In our fast-paced, technology-filled world, sometimes it’s nice to take some time out and enjoy some unstructured, face-to-face play time. That’s exactly what many of our Salford Hills students did recently in order to celebrate Global School Play Day 2018! Students brought in games and materials and were told they could play, create, build, interact, imagine, strategize, and socialize. Some children enjoyed crafts like finger knitting and spin art while others had games incorporating movement such as Twister. Some students brought in dolls and toys to inspire imaginative play, and many brought in good old fashioned board games. There were even some science-related toys such as a hydraulic claw. Smiles, conversation, compromising, exploration, and laughter all abounded as children chose what to do and enjoyed spending time with each other. Interested in learning more about Global School Play Day or the importance of unstructured play? Check out the website: http://www.globalschoolplayday.com/
Annual 5th Grade Tradition Returns to SH
Fifth graders enjoyed making their annual Valentine’s boxes. After designing their special boxes, students entered them into categories: Sweetest, Most Creative, Most Unique, Most Artistic, and Funniest. Students voted homeroom by homeroom and had fun seeing each other’s creations. The best part was afterwards, enjoying a gradewide party together in the cafeteria. It was the fifth graders’ final party at Salford Hills, and everyone had a blast!
