November 18, 2020
Dear Parents, Students and Staff,
This has been an amazing week so far at Stayton Intermediate/Middle School. During a time when our state continues to see a rise in COVID case counts, we have been afforded the opportunity to accomplish some positive events during this challenging time. Our staff continues to work hard to provide great educational opportunities for your students during unprecedented times. Your students are doing unbelievable work, even though they would prefer to be able to communicate and work directly with their teachers. Kids are resilient and as adults we need to feed their desire for knowledge during a time when they are hearing a great deal of negativity in our nation.
On Monday we were able to begin Limited In-Person Instruction (LIPI) to our fourth graders. LIPI is not required for students to attend. We have divided our fourth graders into two cohorts, a Monday/Tuesday cohort (A), and a Wednesday/Thursday cohort (B). Our A cohorts saw 21 students attend both days. It was amazing to see kids and hear the live conversations in classrooms. Yes there are a lot of safety procedures in place, but overall it has been an amazing two days. I can’t wait to see the B cohorts today and tomorrow.
We continue to move forward with our LIPI plans. The next group we are planning for are our fifth graders. If you have a fifth grade student and haven’t returned your survey, please do so in order to allow us to plan thoughtfully. Right now our staff is dividing classes into cohorts, planning for busses and preparing classrooms for a LIPI start date of December 7, 2020. The times would be the same as fourth grade which is 12:35-2:35. Students would still have Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) in the morning, and LIPI would be in addition to in the afternoon.
Below you will find some key information about the coming weeks. We have a half day of school this Friday, and are having conferences next Monday and Tuesday. You should have received an email, phone call or information on how to sign up for conferences from your student's teacher. Thanksgiving break is also next week, so kids don’t have any classes due to conferences and Thanksgiving. We are also having our virtual book fair. Please visit our website for more information.
I want to thank you all for your support and tireless efforts during these times. I want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to provide your children a safe place to learn and grow. I’m proud of all the work the entire Stayton Intermediate/Middle School staff has put into ensuring our CDL and LIPI processes and procedures are what is best for ALL.
