SRO Student of the Week: Jeremiah E.
"Jerry is responsible for heading up the recycling this year. He works hard and puts forth a lot of effort to create a community in the school. Jerry is dedicated and responsible. Every Friday he brings an extra recycling cart to school to make the process smoother and even has supplied candy for the students that help with recycling. He is a leader and a positive role model for his peers. Did I mention he also has a great sense of humor?!"

Parent Teacher Conferences 10/09 & 10/11
Windsor Middle School will be hosting our first semester parent/teacher conferences on October 09, 2023 & October 11, 2023 from 4:15 – 8:00 PM. These conferences are drop-in style and it is strongly recommended that you bring your student with you, as they will provide some insights on how classes are going.
In preparation for conferences, we encourage you to check on your student’s grades and attendance using our district’s Infinite Campus Parent Portal. If you are not familiar with Infinite Campus, you can find more information here: https://weldre4.org/en-US/parent-applications-dashboard-079e8097
If your student is currently thriving here at WMS please consider connecting with their teacher(s) via email rather than an in-person conference. Also, please understand that conferences are 5-10 minutes each and will likely occur back-to-back. Your student’s teacher will need to begin and end the conference on time to maintain a schedule throughout the evening. If you anticipate needing longer than 5-10 minutes, please email your student’s teacher directly to set up an appointment.
As conferences are intended to be short meetings with your child’s teacher(s) it may be difficult to see all of their teachers in one evening. Please prioritize the teachers you wish to speak with most.
Thank you for you continued support and partnership in providing your child with the best educational opportunities possible!
Parent/Teacher Conference Meals
2023 Parent/Teacher Conferences are set for Oct. 9th & 11th from 4:15-8pm. We would love help making sure our staff and teachers are loved on and fed for those evenings.
Please use the links below sign-up for a dish and bring to the Front Office by 3pm on the day that you sign-up for.
If you are bringing items in a crockpot-please use the liners so that it is easier for us to return it to you clean.
Please label any containers with your name so we can get it back to the correct people.
We do not need silverware or napkins-we have plenty.
A Note From The Health Office
Just a reminder, we need updated immunization records or immunization exemption forms turned in to the health office by October 30! If we don't have one or the other we will have to call home, as the students won't be able to be at school without that documentation.
Also, if you have any clothes you need to get rid of that fall in the Youth L - Adult XL size range, the health office could really use some extra clothes. We are specifically looking for bottoms!

Family Connection -Family Table Time
Did you know that teens who eat dinner with their families are less likely to use drugs or alcohol? Family dinner time activities and conversations can establish lifelong healthy habits, rituals, help to stay organized, create memories and traditions. Family dinner time can help promote values, ethics and principles within the family unit which in turn helps teens be healthy members of society.

What's Happening Around WMS?
Fire Ecology with Mr. Sonnenberg
Mr. Sonnenberg's Fire Ecology class received a visit from some wildland firefighters this week. The fire crew is a state crew based in Hudson. This visit allowed the kids to learn more about wildland firefighting careers as well as the different tools and equipment that the fire crew uses to battle wildland (forest and grass) fires.
Windsor Middle School's BIONIC Club (Believe It Or Not I Care) is selling socks for a cause
When someone in a developing country becomes an amputee – they quickly come to realize they have lost much more than a limb. The loss of a limb is just the first loss in a cycle of loss that often includes their job, social standing, self-worth, family, dignity, and finally their humanity. Let’s break that cycle!
Most of us don’t even think about it. We take thousands of steps every day. It’s just a part of life.
But for millions of amputees throughout the developing world, the possibility of taking a single step is just a dream.
WMS's BIONIC club started the sock campaign to help give amputees around the world a second chance at life by providing them with a leg system that is high-quality and costs less than the cell phone that we carry around in our pockets every day.
Also: For every pack sold, we will receive a pair of socks to donate to people in need within our own community!
Purchase Here:

We thank you for your support,
WMS BIONIC and Mrs. Brandl

Choir Concert!
We had a fabulous choir concert on Tuesday! Thank you to those of you who were able to join us - we had a packed house supporting our vocal music program. Congratulations to Mr. Todd, Mr. Connell, and our 140+ musicians!
8th Grade Language Arts
In Mr. Green's 8th grade Language Arts class, students worked in small groups to compare two informational texts. The students connected the similarities between a documentary and a journal article; then they found out how the two contrasted each other. They evaluated each medium for informational texts trying to decide the pros and cons for video vs. text. The students finally synthesized their findings to help them understand what the sources reveal about the experience of immigrant students in America.
Safe Schools Month: District Safety & Security Department
October is Safe Schools Month - a time to bring a focus on how our district and larger community can work together to make our schools safer and more secure. In Weld RE-4, we believe that in order to thrive in the classroom, students must have safe and secure learning environments. Safe and secure learning environments are fostered in our schools through: a Standard Response Protocol, safety plans, drills and exercises, secure entrances, screened visitors, security cameras, ID cards for staff and high school students, web filters and security settings, emergency response planning, and partnerships with local emergency services. These are just a handful of the items that comprise our safety program. Learn More

VOLUNTEER COACHING INFORMATION
There are a few steps to volunteering as a Coach at WMS. The first step is to speak with the Head Coach of the sport you want to participate in. When that coach approves you, he or she will send a note to Mr. Cox, our Athletic Director, informing him of the potential volunteer, and that the coach has met the potential volunteer and has a plan for that volunteer to help our program. The potential volunteer will then need to come see Mr. Cox to get a Volunteer Coaching form. You will need that form in order to complete an application to volunteer on our RAPTOR system. Once you have the form, go to RAPTOR and fill out the volunteer application. When you are approved, you will be in the system and are then able to work with our athletes.
Please call Mr. Cox if you have any questions, or need help working through the process, at (970) 686-8219.
