Principal's Update
Brent Elementary Weekly Newsletter
February 17 - 21
I hope that everyone has enjoyed (and is enjoying!) their long weekend. While we had a short week at school, we certainly had many exciting things happen. On Thursday, we were able to give each child a book! What a wonderful and exciting opportunity. A big thank you to Mrs. Weirich for organizing this. Before the year is over, we will have more free book days. We also celebrated 100 days of school! It's certainly amazing to think we're filled with 100 days of learning and fun.
Thank you to PTA for providing dinner and treats for our conference nights. We are very appreciative of your support!
I'd like to remind everyone about the Parent Literacy Workshop that will be held at Brent on Monday, February 24th. If you are interested in attending, please read the information below.
Finally, please remember that we do not have school tomorrow, Monday, February 17th (President's Day). Additionally, we do not have school on Friday, February 21st (In-service Day).
As always, if you need anything please do not hesitate to reach out.
Thank you,
Ms. Baker
Parent Literacy Workshop - February 24
I'd like to remind you about an upcoming event that will be held at Brent on Monday, February 24th. The event is from 6 - 7:30 pm. A staff and parent team from Brent and Whitaker is hosting Parent Literacy Night! This is an opportunity to learn how to help your child/ren with reading at home. You'll get a goodie bag with resources, tips and tricks from teachers, and food! We look forward to seeing you at this first annual event! The event flyer is below. Please use this link to RSVP: https://forms.gle/15vUwiScPhGYRtV68
Lunch Fees
Please make sure that lunch balances are paid in a timely manner. There are several ways that you can pay the balance on your child's lunch account. You can send cash, check (made out to Milford Schools Nutrition Service. If possible, you can pre-pay the account so that your child's balance does not go into the negative.

Spring Box Top Collection - February 20
Our Spring (and final) Box Top Collection is on Friday, February 20th. In the fall, Mrs. Adamson’s class collected the most Box Tops at Brent. Her class brought in 243 Box Tops. Together, Brent and Whitaker raised $264 in the fall. Let's top that! Bring your Box Tops to school and turn into your child's classroom teacher. The class with the most Box Tops will win a prize!
PTA Carnival
This year's PTA carnival will be held at Whitaker Elementary on Saturday, March 7, from 11am-3pm. We need lots of volunteers to work games and concessions along with people to help set up the night before and clean up immediately afterward. Games are simple, and instructions will be provided. Teen volunteers are welcome to help in concessions, to paint faces, and to run games! Sign up online at http://tinyurl.com/ftcarnival2020
If you can't be there to help in person, please consider donating items for the cake walk, bake sale, or ring-a-goody game. Baked goods can be dropped off in the elementary school offices on Friday, March 6, before 3pm or at Whitaker on Saturday, March 7, between 10:30-11am. You can drop off ring-a-goody items (juice boxes, pop cans, Pringles, canned goods like Spaghetti O's, etc.) in the elementary offices anytime between now and March 6. Thank you for all that you do to support our Finneytown Elementary Schools!
If you have any questions about volunteering, please contact Stephanie Haarlammert at ptacarnivalvolunteers@gmail.com or text 513-295-2677. General carnival questions should be directed to carnival chair April Statt at april.statt@gmail.com. Thanks again!

Counselor's Corner - Mrs. Rouse
It was an exciting week at Brent with 100th day of school and Valentine's Day celebrations. Students continued to learn about empathy and what it's like to stand in others' shoes. This week, we will continue focusing on the importance of caring for others as we start lessons on bucket filling. Students learn that everyone has an invisible bucket that can be emptied or filled. Encourage your child to be a bucket filler!
If you are interested in helping with World Culture Night in any way, please let me know. As a reminder, the event is rescheduled to April 16th.
New lunch groups will be starting this week. If your child participates in lunch group and we haven't discussed next steps, please be on the lookout for a letter from me. Feel free to reach out to me at any time if you have any questions or concerns.
