Savvy Students
December News
Wrapping Up
In Norwood library classes we wrapped 2015 up with a bang! We are ready to head into the new year. But before we do, here's a quick look back at all we accomplished.
Hour of Code
December 7th through the 11th, students in 2nd-6th grade tried coding during library classes. Coding is a great way to teach children about computer language, but it also encourages perseverance and logical thinking. This year's addition of Mine Craft coding was a big hit!
Blogging and Commenting Etiquette
Students in 6th grade finished their book reviews on the blog and were thrilled when the 4th and 5th grade students started online conversations with them about reading. Following the three C's rules; students Complimented, Connected and started Conversations. Sixth graders were happily counting up the comments to which they had to reply.
Rhode Island Children's Book Awards
It is almost time to vote on the RICBA Nominees of 2016. We have been reading some of the books out loud in 4th-6th grade library classes. With so many good books to choose from, it is going to be hard for the students to pick their favorite.
Second Grade Fun
MyCreate is a great little app that makes it easy for even the youngest students to illustrate their ideas. Check out all the stop animation films that are up on the library page. Second graders presented their nonfiction facts in a most interesting fashion!
Jack
Voki Book Reviews
Fourth grade reviews are up on the library page. They had a lot of fun practicing their typing and then putting those skills to use.
Typing Web
Third through Sixth grade have been given Typing Web accounts in library. They can practice their typing at home, move up levels, earn stars, and get faster. Great practice and preparation for PARCC testing. Easy class monitoring for the teachers. All for free!
You Tube Playlists
I love having the ability to create a playlist on YouTube to share with my classes. There are some really great educational videos. Each week I am able to read a Fiction book, a Nonfiction book and show a video clip based on a theme. Great way to access information in a variety of formats.
