As a former kindergarten teacher and school Director of Technology Steve
Dembo is a pioneer in the field of educational social networking.
Currently serving as Discovery Education's Director of Social Media
Strategy and Online Community, Dembo was among the first educators to
realize the power of blogging, podcasting, Twitter, and other Web 2.0
technologies in connecting educators and creating professional learning
communities. Dembo is co-author of Untangling the Web: 20 Tools to Power
Up Your Teaching and an adjunct professor for Wilkes Unversity where he
serves as class instructor for the Internet Tools for Teaching course
within the Instructional Media degree program.

Learn how to increase reading appreciation and participation, particularly amongst the ESL and support students at the elementary level while simultaneously bringing excitement toward on-line/device reading which we believe will increase as we move forward. Presentation will showcase augmented reality applications.
Discovery Education Tools for Engagement
Explore how to effectively utilize Discovery Education's Board Builder in the classroom. Board Builder is a strong tool for inquiry based assignments for students, project-based assignments, and even a centers-approach. Board Builder allows teachers to organize a work space and have all of the materials for students to utilize in one particular spot. The “Boards” are student-friendly and appealing to the eye. They can be used to deliver information to students, and students are able to use it to deliver their new learned knowledge to the rest of the class and the teacher.
Going Paperless with Google Classroom
Google Classroom is one of the most effective applications for improving a teacher’s workflow. “Classroom helps teachers save time, keep classes organized, and improve communication with students. It is available to anyone with Google Apps for Education” Come explore all the advantages of moving to Google Classroom.
Creating Augmented Reality Learning Experiences
We will examine how you can use augmented reality to create a classroom environment of sharing and exploration. This session will introduce you to the augmented reality app Aurasma and how to begin using it to make your physical classroom come alive with the use of mobile devices.

Get ready for a fast paced session with loads of educational possibilities to be used in your classroom immediately.
