Principal's Message

Greetings Hiteon Community,

The school year definitely has a different feel this year with Comprehensive Distance Learning, but with October, all the things that make fall a great season are around us. October brings the changing leaves, pumpkins everywhere, rain, and rain puddles. Class routines and structure are becoming more predictable, and the relationships between students and their teachers are growing.

The Hiteon staff misses what school has usually brought in October, a sense of community in the building, and the sounds of students learning. However, it is essential to know teachers continue to work at making CDL the best alternative to in-person instruction as possible. We all look forward to the day we can teach and learn in person.

We want to thank all of our parents and caregivers for the extraordinary hard work you are doing to ensure your child(ren) are engaged and learning each day. It is no small feat to manage jobs, life’s ever-changing to-do list, and your child’s remote learning. Our Hiteon Heart, beats strong and appreciative of all you are doing each day to be partners in the learning of your child(ren).

CDL Student Attendance and Engagement

Students are expected to be engaged in learning five days a week. We will encourage full participation; however, the pandemic’s reality requires flexibility on how a student demonstrates meeting that expectation. For example, a student may attend a live teacher-led session (synchronous), watch a teacher-recorded video (asynchronous), interact with the teacher via email, and/or post completed coursework.

If your child cannot participate in any aspect of distance learning on a school day, please call the attendance line at 503-356-2145. We also recommend you contact your child(ren)'s teacher via email.

Staff will take attendance each day by 4:00 pm. Students who did not engage in any aspect of distance learning prior to 4:00pm that day will be marked absent. Auto-Dialer messages will begin around 4:45 pm each day. Your family will be contacted via auto-dialer if the parent/guardian did not contact the school, and your child(ren) did not engage in any aspect of distance learning.

Hiteon Behavior Health & Wellness

This 2020-2021 school year Beaverton School District has adopted a new team: the Behavioral Health & Wellness Team (BH&W). The Hiteon BH&W Team is composed of Administrators, Counselors, School Psychologist, Student Success Coach, Nurse, & Social Worker. This team’s goal is to support our students, families, and staff by providing services and resources to support our community’s mental health and wellness.

Hiteon's Library Book Distribution Continues with Bus Stop Locations

Hiteon has been offering curbside book bundles at school for all students. We are now including three bus stop locations in our community. Each student will get to pick from 5 categories of books. Then they will be given a random stack of books to take home from their choices. It will be a fun and safe way for kids to discover new books! Come get your books Rain or Shine!

Curbside Distribution:


  • Tuesdays 3:30-5 pm
  • Wednesdays 11-12:30 pm


In front of Hiteon. You may drive and park, or walk up. There will be cones out to guide you where to stand in line.

What to bring to get books at either curbside or bus stop distributions:

  1. A face mask is required and staying 6ft apart.

  2. Any Hiteon books you have to return.

  3. Your 6 digit student number. Write it large on a scrap piece of paper. We can help; it will just take a little longer.

  4. A backpack to put the books in and keep them safe and dry.

Does the student need to be there?

No, any trusted adult/older sibling can come to get books. Just make sure to have their students 6 digit student number .

Student Supply Bags from Last School Year

If you did not pick up your student's supply bags during the Spring pickups last school year, there still is time during the month of October.

Please contact the main office at 503-356-2140 to schedule an appointment time to pickup. Give us your student's name and last year's teacher and grade.

Pickups will be scheduled on Mondays and Thursdays between 8:30am to 2:00pm.

Any bags not picked up by the end of October will be discarded.

School Pictures Postponed

Having pictures of our students every year helps us see how they've grown during their primary years. We know how important this tradition is.

Unfortunately, Dorian Photography will not be scheduling elementary school photo sessions until students return to school. They are only scheduling middle and high school photos at this time.

As soon as we are back together in the building, we will schedule Dorian as soon as possible.

Technology Updates

Need a Student Device?

As we begin CDL, iPads are available for students in grades K-2, and Chromebooks are available for students in grades 3-5. If your student does not have a previously-issued device or has one that is not working correctly, please go to the Student Help Desk or call 503-356-4656 to request assistance or a replacement device. Our building tech team will respond to help desk requests and provide a weekly time for device pick up or replacement.

Forgotten Passwords

If your student has forgotten his/her email password, it can be found in ParentVue. If ParentVue says that the password has been changed, ParentVue will provide a number for you to CALL for help.

Change to Student Chromebook login

Beginning September 8, the student login to Chromebooks changed. This change provides important security improvements. Students will log into their Chromebooks with their full student email addresses (i.e., 123455@bsd48.org).

BSD/Student Device Damage & Loss Protection

This year, all students in grades K-12 have the opportunity to check out a district-owned device for use at home during CDL. Anticipating that all students will get a district-owned device, the district adds a fee of $20 to students’ Online Payment accounts (maximum fee of $60 per family per school year) to enroll them in the Damage Loss Protection Program. This fee is waived for families who qualify for the free or reduced meal benefits program. Even though the fee is waived for free or reduced meal program, you are required to OPT INTO the protection plan to have coverage, there won't be a fee.

You can opt in for device protection in the Enrollment Verification process or fill out the form below and return with payment to Hiteon's main office.

Students need to pay the assigned fee prior to any damage or loss claims to be eligible for the Protection Program coverage and no later than 30 days after they begin school. Students may choose to decline coverage, but this is not recommended, because the family is assuming full responsibility for any costs due to damage, loss or theft. These costs could be as much as $300 per incident, regardless of how it happens.

BSD Learning Options Programs Applications Open for 5th Graders

Students can choose their neighborhood school or apply to a Learning Option Program. Transportation is provided.

Please do some online research on the Learning Options Programs and attend one or more of the virtual open houses.

Applications for the 2021-2022 school year will be available starting October 19:

  • Current BSD students may apply online using their student ID.

  • All applicants must reside within the Beaverton School District boundaries.

  • Resident students not currently attending a Beaverton school (i.e. homeschool or private school students) will need to complete a paper application available online or at any school office beginning October 19.

  • Applicants who don’t have internet access may complete a paper application.

  • Students may only select one option on their applications.

  • Please give careful consideration to your choice of school. Once an application has been submitted, no changes will be allowed.

  • Raleigh Hills and Springville will only be accepting applications for 7th and 8th grades.

Applications must be received no later than December 11 at 4:00 p.m.
