Math Antics - https://www.mathantics.com/ This is a great website for basic math videos and worksheets. Go to the website and click on the video on the home screen to find out more information.
Khan Academy This educational resource is comprised of an organized set of videos and information related to the math taught at any level. This site is great for students that need clarification on any topic and can be used as a preview for grade level videos and explanations.
Illustrative Mathematics This online mathematics curriculum is free and full of lessons for all levels of math. While it is not aligned to Texas standards, the activities and lessons are well-designed and they are easy to navigate. This website is a great resource for learning at home.
Math4Texas This website is organized to explain the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) which provide the foundation of our mathematical content. The explanations and examples effectively communicate the skills needed to excel in mathematics.
Wolfram Alpha Wolfram Alpha has broad knowledge and deep computational power when it comes to math. Whether it be arithmetic, algebra, calculus, differential equations or anything in between, Wolfram Alpha is up to the challenge. Get help with math homework, solve specific math problems or find information on mathematical subjects and topics.
***One of the most basic skills students should practice continue to be their multiplication facts. It's extremely difficult to build students in middle school math without multiplication (and division). Feel free to use old school flash cards or find an APP for that! Google Play and Apple's App Store have plenty for multiplication facts!
Topics coming in January:
6th grade Math - Equivalent mathematical expressions (building on the order of operations from 5th grade math and introducing exponents)
7th grade Math - Linear Representations with tables, graphs and word problems. Students will identify rate of change (slope and y-intercept in PreAP 7)
8th Grade Math - Dilations with Algebraic Representations followed by our Geometry unit (finding volume and surface area)
Algebra - Laws of Exponents
Science Department

Social Studies Department
7th Grade Texas History - Students will begin The Lone Star State Unit. Here is an overview of the Unit. In December 1845, Texas became the 28th state of the United States. The struggle for statehood had been difficult. Three different men had served as presidents of the Republic of Texas. Only Lamar had wanted the Republic to remain an independent country. Many northerners opposed Texas annexation because of Texas’s status as a slave state. Texas voters endorsed annexation by a landslide. As a brand new state, Texas needed a new state constitution and a governor. Political parties begin to influence Texas politics in the mid-1800s. Mexico was angered by the annexation of Texas, and eventually a boundary dispute over which river was the true border between the U.S. and Mexico led to the outbreak of the U.S.- Mexican War.
8th Grade U.S. History - The week we get back, students will begin The Age of Jackson and War of 1812 Unit. Students will explain the origin and development of American political parties. Students will also describe and identify a stable economic system, setting up the court system, and defining the authority of the central government. The students will identify the foreign policies of presidents of the Early Republic as well as judicial review.
Thomas Jefferson’s Presidency
Political Parties – Democratic-Republicans & Federalists
Foreign Policies
Louisiana Purchase – Lewis and Clark Expedition
Marbury v. Madison – judicial Review
Madison’s Presidency
War of 1812
