Trex Plastic Film Recycling Challenge Update
Thank you to everyone who has donated recyclables to the Trex Plastic Film Recycling Challenge! As of December 31, 2022, we had collected 73 lbs. of plastic wrap and it appears that we will have another huge haul this month! Last week, we welcomed CVUSD School Board members Mr. Gorback, Mrs. Goldberg, Mrs. Sylvester, and Mrs. Gill to our campus and showed them the progress that we've made with this campaign. Aspen is currently the only school in CVUSD and the only school in Ventura County to participate in this program. We are making excellent progress while keeping plastic out of our homes, the environment, and landfills.
As a reminder, please do not include any plastic containers or food items in the Trex recycling bin. Acceptable plastic wrap should be clean and dry and labeled with recycling logo 2 or 4 or have a plastic wrap logo. Pet food bags, floral wrap, and candy bags are unfortunately not eligible for this program. Kindly remove receipts and cut out shipping labels and stickers prior to recycling, as they will disrupt the sorting machines.
The campaign ends in mid-April so please continue to drop off your recyclables in the Trex bin located in the Aspen courtyard. Thank you for your support!
2022-2023 Opt-In Communication for CVUSD Advisory Council/Committee Updates
In CVUSD, parent/guardian engagement and participation is a top priority! Participation is encouraged through many organizations and activities. Several CVUSD Advisory Councils/Committees that support parent/guardian participation are listed below, with the OPTION for you to select any or all to receive communications from the school’s identified parent/guardian representative and/or from school site administration. This communication would provide information and updates to you related to the Advisory Council/Committee meetings. Please select the Council(s)/Committee(s) that you would like to receive information and updates on, approximately monthly. If you have students at multiple school sites, please submit the form for each school. Additionally, if you opted-in last year, please plan to do so annually. Importantly, should you choose to opt-in to receiving these updates, the parent/guardian representative for the Advisory Council(s)/Committees(s) and/or the administration will not share your email address with others. You also have the ability to opt-out at any time in the event you no longer wish to receive the Advisory Council/Committee information.
If you have any questions in this regard, please contact Dr. Craven at scraven@conejousd.org.
To access the Advisory Council/Committee Opt-In Form, please use this LINK.

PFA Announcements
A huge thank you to our wonderful Aspen teachers!
Would you like fries AND for PFA to have $1500 with that? Yup. You read that right. In just 3 hours, your McDonald’s orders totaled a BIG MAC AMOUNT of $1500 right back to ASPEN PFA!!! Wow!! We are not clowning around like Ronald! It’s the truth! And Mcdonald's management was so happy to see our community come together for a good cause and fun food! Thank you to all who supported. These restaurant fundraisers help keep our specialists around so that our students can continue enjoying visual arts, dance, and PE!
Plus, it’s not every day your teacher gets to serve you your dinner! Thanks to our teachers for showing up to make it extra special! Our Aspen fam is just the BEST! 💜💛

Roadrunner Run Sign Kits are on Sale Now!
Aspen's 2nd Annual Aspen Roadrunner Run is on Friday, February 10, 2023. Cheer/encourage your child(ren) during the run by purchasing a Roadrunner Run sign kit. The kit includes an 18”x24” yard sign with stand with a special Roadrunner Run Sticker affixed to it. If you would like to use last year’s sign, you need to reserve a space. The cost is $25 for each sign kit (space on field included) or $25 for space on the field if you would like to reuse a sign from last year. You will be able to decorate/personalize your sign before the event. Signs (both new and old) will be collected prior to the event and placed in the run area on February 10th. (Note: The purchase of a sign kit DOES NOT count towards your child’s pledge levels for prizes). Flyers were sent home recently. You can also pick up an order form in the Aspen office.
We have a limited number of sign kits available and they will be sold on a first come first served basis. Thank you for your consideration and support. If you have any questions, please contact Susan Fujimoto at syfujimoto2002@yahoo.com
The signs were very popular last year. Please order your sign kit or space for your sign early!
Aspen Elementary Science Fair
COMING SOON! Wednesday, April 19, 2023 – 5:00 -7:00 pm
As we begin 2023, it is time to start thinking ahead to The Annual Aspen Elementary Science Fair! Students will have the opportunity to complete a science project, which will be displayed at a school-wide event on Wednesday, April 19th from 5-7pm in the MPR.
Students can complete the project independently or with a group. All work is to be done outside of school and each individual/group will be required to complete a trifold display. Trifold Science Boards will be made available for purchase through the school. A letter will go home and announcements will be made upon the availability of such boards. You are not obligated to obtain the board through the school.
Students wishing to participate in the Science Fair must submit a Project Proposal by March 1st to the office or their teacher. These will be sent home in the beginning of February. Those interested students will be given a Student Preparation Guide, which contains all the important information that will help students complete their projects. Final projects are due on the night of the Science Fair and students will report to the Aspen MPR between 4-5 pm to check-in and set up their display.
Do you have older children in middle school or high school? Students may volunteer for community service to help with the Science Fair setup, organization and cleanup. An announcement will be made approximately one month before the event regarding specific volunteers needed.
If you would like to help out at the Science Fair or if you have any questions or concerns, please email me at jasmine.nottingham@gmail.com. Thank you and please encourage your child to participate in this year’s Aspen Science Fair.
