Summer Reading Project - 10/8 (I have changed the due date for this. In my previous email it said September 30th)

In two weeks we will begin reading The Giver (Lowis Lowry) in association with our unit of study (the challenge of heroism). I would strongly recommend students having their own copy so they can write in it and make notes throughout our discussions. Electronic copies of the novel are and excellent use of technology, especially if they can make notes within the book. If this is not something that is possible, we have copies to loan out to students.

Note: Students will be able to pick between Gathering Blue and Messenger. They will not be reading both.

Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation Scholarship Program

Each year the 8th graders have an opportunity to participate in a scholarship competition hosted by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation. This foundation will award 34 8th grade students from around the metroplex a $2,500 scholarship. We will be completing the application in class, however I wanted to make you aware of this great opportunity we have been given to help 8th graders get a jump start on preparing for college and their future as students. The 34 winners will be announced in March. Please encourage your students to be thoughtful with their answer as this can help them with their education in the future. If you have any questions about this program please let me know.

Please visit www.bobbybragan.org to learn more about this program.
