Marine Corps JROTC
Allen High School
Welcome!
Incoming Freshmen and Parents: My name is Sergeant Major Bruce Cole and I am the Senior Marine Instructor for Marine Corps JROTC at Allen High School. Let me be the first to welcome you to the program and say what a privilege it is to work with such a patriotic and community-focused group of young Americans as we have in our Marine Corps JROTC program. I send out a newsletter every week during the regular school year, but in this "special edition", I want to cover what we do and post the summer schedule with enough enough detail to be informative and enough brevity to keep it readable. Information and a rough schedule for the summer program is located at the bottom of this newsletter.
Course Goals
- Develop leadership and build character.
- Create informed, patriotic, and responsible citizens.
- Develop responsible young men and women who are physically, mentally, and morally fit.
- Develop informed and civic-minded young adults prepared for higher education, civilian careers, and public service.
- Instill discipline, respect, and responsibility through military-related subjects and activities.
Course Requirements
- All Cadets will be required to adhere to Marine Corps JROTC Cadet grooming standards while enrolled in the program.
- The Cadet MCJROTC uniform will be worn at least one day each week. It must be clean and present a professional appearance.
- All Cadets are required to stand weekly uniform inspections. The majority of these inspections will be conducted by other Cadets in positions of leadership.
- As almost all of the MCJROTC curriculum is accessed through Canvas, Skyward, and other web-based platforms, all Cadets must be allowed access to technology.
- As a symbol of school spirit, MCJRTOC Cadets have a reserved seating section in the stadium at all home football games. Attendance at home games is mandatory.
Physical Fitness
Cadets begin their journey to setting and achieving fitness goals.
Classes
Cadets receive classes on a myriad of topics - from administrative procedures to rope work and knots, students will be constantly challenged.
Close Order Drill
Cadets learn the basics of Close Order Drill (Marching) in order to instill discipline and leadership.
Football Friday
Marine Corps JROTC Cadet Section
At the games, we have our own section. We ring the bell, do pushups in the end zone, and enjoy some team spirit.
A-CREW
Don't let it fool you... running with those flags will take the wind out of you. If you're fit enough, you're welcome to run the flags with the A-Crew.
Color Guards
Color guard teams (a team of 4 Cadets, roughly the same height) are not limited to upper classmen. Any cadet with the drive and discipline to perform on a Color Guard is welcome!
Competitions
We travel far and wide to attend competitions at other Schools. These trips are where the camaraderie begins and friendships flourish.
Nationals
Our last showing at the National Drill Competition in Virginia.
Teams
Teams are small and are bond-building experiences. These bonds transcend the problems of today's society and give students a sense of belonging and purpose.
Pride and Determination
Performing on a team means hours of practice and rehearsal in order to get the movements exactly right. It's through this dedication to your craft and your teammates that discipline and character are developed.
Ceremonies, Community Service, and Events
Parades and Community Events
We participate in a wide array of events in support of the Allen community. You will find us at the Eagle Run, Christmas Parade, Food Drives, Toys for Tots, and just about every other worthy event we can find.
Marine Corps Ball, Formals, and Banquets
The Marine Corps is very rich in tradition. As Marine Corps Cadets, we embrace those traditions and participate in all aspects of Marine Corps customs, honors, and courtesies.
Awards
Cadets who dive in and fully participate in all that the Marine Corps JROTC program offers, will find that their time, sacrifice, and service are met with recognition in the form of awards, ribbons, and medals that are presented by the Cadet Leadership.
Scholarship Opportunities
This year, our top two cadets earned full college scholarships. Granted, they did all the work... studied, kept good grades, got good scores, but they have begun their journey as Marine Corps Officers and we like to think we had a little something to do with it.
Cadet Summer Program
The Cadet Summer Program is not mandatory, but is highly encouraged. Here, the Cadets get a head start on learning about rank structure, chain of command, and basic military concepts, as well as getting a boost in promotions.
