VOGELTOWN SCHOOL - THE 'VS' WAY
Care for the land, Care for the people, Go Forward
Our Values: I.R.O.C.K
Inclusive, Respectful, Original, Courageous, Kind
Whakauru, Whakaute, Tipu, Kaha, Atawhai
SCHOOL VALUE THIS TERM: 'TO BE COURAGEOUS'
These are for our Vogeltown learners to be:
Inclusive (Whakaru), Respectful (Whakaute), Original (Tipu), Courageous (Kaha) and Kind (Atawhai).
These values were chosen by the staff, learners and community of Vogeltown School in 2019.
This term we are focusing on being 'Courageous'.
To be courageous we want our learners to - give everything a go, be a risktaker, stick up for themselves, think of their own solutions, try new things, offer opinions and idea, join in with others, and to be their own person.
SCHOOL GOAL: Being 'open' to new learning!
WHAT: Being prepared to learn new ‘skills’ at school this term!
WHY: To understand that learning never stops
To know that I am capable of learning new things
Being open to learn in all areas – socially, academically and emotionally
I can improve myself by being open to new ideas
SIGNS OF SUCCESS:
You are keen to ‘take on’ new learning and use this learning to develop your skills
You want to learn new things – you are a sponge and might go on to research more!
Even if it is not a subject you like, you are still keen to learn and develop your skills
You are always improving and developing your skills with new learning.

KIA ORA VS WHANAU, FROM MR O
We have had a great first week back to the term I have visited every class and our learners are settled and engaged - ready to be 'open for new learning'. Class programmes are up and running - we will be putting out syndicate newsletters next week to let you know what is happening in each syndicate this term. Please check the school calendar and the important dates at the bottom of the newsletters - this way you will not miss any important dates.
Term 3 is one of the hardest terms in regards to the weather, but also in regards to learning. We really push our Vogeltown learners very hard in Term 3 to learn and accelerate their learning as much as possible.
This term we begin our annual interventions in reading and maths. This is to help support the learning for some of our learners. Mrs Harold is taking the reading intervention and Mrs Oliver is taking the maths intervention at the junior and senior side over the next 10 weeks.
Because of the lockdown in Term 1 and the number of weeks in Term 2, the inter-school sports has been pushed to this term. This involves the Year 5 and 6 students against our other schools. The dates for these events are further down in the newsletter. These are awesome events and we invite all whanau to come and watch these sports happening.
Term 3 is also the cross country term. This involves gearing our kids up for the Vogeltown cross country and then some of our students on to the New Plymouth Primary schools cross country on the 8th of September. We will be encouraging our kids to run or walk the course we have at school - it is great for our daily fitness.
We are looking forward to an awesome term!
Thanks whanau,
Mr O
We will be using this day in two ways:
* The first is for learning conferences for our Taranaki (Junior) syndicate. We will have the Thursday night and all of Friday for our parents/caregivers to book in and talk to your child's teacher. See the link below to book in a time for these learning conferences.
* For our Huatoki (Middle) and Paetoki (Senior) syndicates, this day will be for Professional Development around writing.
Our learning conferences for the Huatoki (Middle) and Paetoki (Senior) syndicates will be in Week 9 of Term 3.

VOGELTOWN HOME AND SCHOOL
Meeting next Wednesday 29th July - All welcome!
Who are the Vogeltown Home & School?
We are a small group of parents and staff that fundraises for the ongoing educational needs of Vogeltown School students. We help with all the 'little extras' that sometimes school funding does not cover. We are often found handing out ice blocks at school cross country, organise the school lunches and other small fundraisers throughout the year. Each year we commit to supporting the school through providing sports uniforms, classroom equipment, transport subsidies and there are other projects that come up every now and then because of a need or want for them. After the school holidays, the Home and School will discuss future fundraising events for the school and we would love to have fresh ideas from our school community.
When do we meet?
We usually meet once or twice a term, however on Wednesday 29th July, we invite you to an informal hui in the Senior School Staffroom at 7pm. There will be some light finger food available as we will also hold our AGM (don't be put off - this will only take 15 minutes where we will appoint new office holders - formal stuff sometimes has to be carried out!).
We encourage our new Vogeltown families to come along and see what we are all about, fundraising can be fun and very rewarding!
