Book Orders-Book orders are in mailboxes today. If you'd like to order, you can order from Scholastic's secure website. There is no shipping and books will be delieverd to school and I will hand them out to students. I'm always happy to make arrangements with you to pick them up if you would like them to be a gift for Christmas or another special occassion. All orders (online and paper - make checks payable to Scholastic) are due Friday, Sept. 15. Thank you and happy shopping!
Jackets Needed!
It tends to get a little chilly at times in our classroom. Your child is welcome to bring a sweatshirt or jacket to leave at school in the closet so they'll have something to wear if they get cold.
If you’d like to sit with your child at lunch we’d love to have you. Lunch begins at 11:47 a.m. If you wish to eat the school lunch, please call the office to order a tray.
Homework
Your child's nightly homework: Read 20 minutes every night!
I'm sending home a couple of activities at your child's reading level each Monday. These are activities are things that you can keep at home - no need to return them. They are just to help you out if you are wondering what a certain reading level "looks" like and give you on level texts to help them practice fluency and comprehension skills.
Reading
We worked continued working hard this week to analyze characters, summarize the beginning, middle and end of the story. We also focused on pausing at a comma, dash, semi colon and ellipses when reading. We showed our fluency skills by presenting reader's theater plays to the class.
Math Skills For This Week
comparing numbers using greater than, less than and equal to
skip counting (by 2s, 5s, and 10s)
ordering numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least
We are finished with unit 1. Next week we shift our focus to addition and subtraction facts and then we will move on to double digit addition and subtraction without regrouping. Look for activities for extra practice in their take home folders as I see where extra work is needed.
English and Writing
In writing we worked all week on word choice by introducing how to use the thesaurus and incorporating fancy words in sentences about themselves all week. We culminated the week with our Fancy Nancy Celebration.
