Rocket Review
Week of June 7, 2019
Five Days to Go!
This week went by quickly as students completed their NWEA testing, celebrating reading successes, participated in Field Day, visited some specialist teacher for the last time this year, and started to bring home art work, class work and projects from the school year.
The building is starting to look bare as teachers are beginning to send student work home and put away items that will not be needed until next year. In a school, the seasons are flipped. We have fall in June, where the artwork, classwork and everything that makes Morgan come to life is taken down and put away until September. When staff arrive back in late August, the building springs to life again as teachers prepare to welcome their new class for the fall.
The Main Office is also packing up and will be relocated to the Music Room the afternoon of Friday, June 14. More information on how to access our temporary location in the Music Room is detailed below.
Next week we have three full days and two half days of school. Please remember that former Morgan students are not encouraged to return to Morgan to visit teachers and staff during school hours. As much as we enjoy seeing our former Morgan Rockets as they continue to grow and achieve, we also are saying good-bye to our current classes and would like to give them our attention for these last few days.
Looks like a pretty weekend to get outside and enjoy the summer weather. For those with older students graduating tomorrow and Sunday from UCS schools, savor those days and take lots of pictures to celebrate these graduates as they move into the next phase of their lives.
Have a great week!

Morgan Office on the Move!
Thanks to your support with the 2018 Bond, our office and lobby are slated to receive a more secure entry way, new lighting (LED), new ceiling tiles, new flooring and new cabinets. The construction will change the front of the building as an addition entry door is added for secure entry during the school day.
To keep our visitors safe and away from construction, the Main Office will be temporarily relocated to the Music Room. There will be signs posted on how to access the main office after June 14. You can park on the south play pad, facing the church, and then walk to the outside Music Room door to enter the ""main office". Our phones lines will be programmed to move to this location as well, so if you call the 586-797-5800 number, you will be greeted by our office staff.
If you have any questions, please let us know!

UCS News and Updates
The Morgan Volunteers PTO held their final meeting for the 2018-2019 school year this past Monday. We would like to welcome the following members to our PTO board and support staff:
Vice President: Haig Istamboulian
Web Masters: Diana Bushman & Jerome Ohnui
Scholastic Books/Birthday Books: Laura Walker
Our PTO also voted to purchase 2 sets of nets for our existing soccer goals, to be installed in the fall. Additionally they approved the purchase of 4 new soccer goals to create two new soccer field areas. These will be ordered and installed for use in the fall. The playground committee is also researching the purchase of a Gaga ball pit, hopefully to be installed in the fall as well.
The Nature Center has been brought back to life! A team met in May for a clean up of the trails and spread 20 yards of mulch on the trails. We can now access more of the trails in the nature center and are working on creating an outdoor classroom area, new sign at the entrance, and the installation of our "Toomey Trail" marker.
Parents in attendance at Monday's meeting also heard update on Morgan improvement projects occurring during the summer of 2019. On Friday, June 14, the Morgan Main Office will be temporarily relocated to the Music Room as work crew begin demolition of areas in the main office. The office will be expanded to include a secure vestibule for entrance to the building after students arrive for the day. The renovation will include a second door added to the outside of the building, new flooring in the lobby and main office, new LED lighting in the lobby and main office and rearrangement of the layout of the main office for better security.
There will also be three classrooms receiving new carpet this summer. These projects were made possible through your support of our bond initiative this past November.
The PTO will be meeting again in the fall and looks forward to seeing many parents join in the fun and exciting projects we have that make Morgan Elementary a special place to learn and grow!
