How Sweet it is to be Back at Riv Land
Welcome to Riv Land! Students will partake in this year’s Spirit Week on the week of October 18-22. Many activities are planned for this exciting time of the year! To start off, each grade will display their banner at the beginning of the week for the entire student body to enjoy. Throughout the week, students are advised to dress out according to the daily themes. Students are encouraged to dress out to show school pride. At the end of the week, students will have their field day and will be able to participate in several competitive games. As is tradition, the senior skit will be performed that Friday as well as the dance battles. The next day, on Saturday, we will be having our annual homecoming dance with the theme of Rivchella. This is going to be a great week full of excitement so make sure to take part and enjoy this opportunity to show your Riviera pride! Check out the flyer below for all the details about the dress-up days.

Senior Swimming Recognition
Congratulations to our seniors, Matthew Fernandez, Nicolas Flowers, Taran Ramu, Theodore Valvis, and Enrique Perez Miralles . They had their senior recognition Wednesday, October 6. When interviewed, Matthew Fernandez shared how he felt about his competitive sport. He responded, “Swimming pushes me to the best person I can be every day. Having to manage four hours of swimming a day with school life is not easy, but it has helped me grow as a person." The Riviera family is incredibly proud of our senior swimmers and their accomplishments. Keep up the great work Bulldogs!

Classroom Spotlight: Psychology Brainiacs
Ms. Otero’s Psychology class covers various topics throughout the year, but perhaps the most favorable one so far has been learning the different sections of the human brain and all of its amazing functions. Throughout the week, students learned all of the material relating to the brain to prepare them for a special activity at the end of the lesson. Ms. Otero treated the children with a fun exercise that got their minds thinking about their own brains! Students were instructed to create a hat the size of their head as if it were the brain itself. They later located and labeled all of the functions and lobes of the brain onto their hat! At the end of class, students were left with a unique hat that would eventually become a tool they used to study for their upcoming quiz. For the rest of the school day, students were continuously spotted taking their brains to other classes with them for fun! Activities like these showcase the innovative and creative teaching styles of Riviera’s finest teachers.

College Visits
The season of fall is filled with plenty of fun at Riviera, but it is also accompanied by various visits by representatives from different colleges across the country. College representatives have been visiting our school to inform our juniors and seniors about all the programs and opportunities available at their respective schools. Colleges like Boston University, High Point University, George Washington University, and the University of Chicago have visited our campus and given presentations in the computer lab, where our upperclassmen asked questions about college life. This allowed them to get more information on the schools and broaden their scope of interest. Hopefully, this helps the seniors decide on the colleges they want to attend and assists them in the college application process.
