Mrs. Badgett's Weekly Update
Week of January 11th
We had an amazing start to 2016! We created iBooks over text features, responded through Zaption over our math lessons, and collaborated through Padlet for things we noticed about informative texts.
Below is an overview for this week. As always, please let me know if you have any questions. Have a great week!!
Reading
This week we will be focusing on context clues to understand the meaning of a word within the text. Context clues was one of our weakest areas as a class on NWEA. I will be sending home additional practice over context clues with your child on Wednesday.
Your child will also be reading a novel, based on his/her reading level, with a small group of students. We are working on answering higher-level questions over our reading by analyzing, evaluating, and creating.
We will also be reading passages. Please reference Canvas to view the articles. There is a link to Canvas below.
Math
We are working on Unit 7 (Fractions and Their Uses; Chance and Probability). If you have any opportunities at home to talk about fractions, please expose your child to them. For example, you could discuss fractions while cooking dinner or eating a pizza. Please continue to practice multiplication AND division facts at home. Please let me know if you need any flashcards. We use the app "Multiplication Genius" in class to practice!
Writing
We are beginning our Informational Unit in Writing! We will be writing over Famous Hoosiers!
Homework
Your child will have homework each night. The reading log is due on Friday. Also, MobyMax is a great website for your child to practice at his/her instructional level. The link is below.
