Ruri-Teens hard at work!

Thirty six of our Ruri-Teen members met after school to make forty No Sew T-Shirt Bags to donate to the Salvation Army. These bags will be filled with goodies and given to senior citizens during the holidays. We are honored to be able to make these bags with loving hands to help others in our community. Be on the lookout for information about our November after school project!

SCHOOL MUSICAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

We can hear it now!!! This year’s “Musical Spectacular,” will be a collection of pieces from various musicals. Workshop dates are Monday, November 15 and Tuesday, November 16 from 3:30-4:30 PM in the WSPMS Auditorium. During the workshops, students will learn a song and dance which they will perform during auditions. Auditions will be BY APPOINTMENT on November 29 and 30, and December 1 and 2 from 3:30-4:30 PM. Students need to be picked up PROMPTLY at 4:30 PM ALL days. See Mrs. Mumbauer or Mrs. Harper with any questions and/or paperwork if unable to attend the workshops, beginning November 16.

Vaccine Clinic

As you may be aware, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently approved the Pfizer-BioNTech-COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in children 5 through 11 years of age. With this newly approved vaccine, there is now a vaccine for all middle school students. In coordination with the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), we will be providing the opportunity for any student in middle school to receive the vaccine here at Wilbur S. Pence Middle School on November 17, 2021 between the hours of 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The vaccine will be administered by health professionals from the Virginia Department of Health. The second dose of the vaccine will be administered at school on December 8, 2021.


The vaccine is OPTIONAL for students. No student will be given the vaccine without documented permission from the parent or guardian. Copies of the permission form will be provided to families this week. There will be an option to submit the permission form online or as a paper copy. More information will be coming to parents in the days leading up to the vaccination clinic.


Please see attached information from the Virginia Department of Health regarding access to the COVID-19 vaccine for children 5-11 years old.

First 9 Weeks Grading Period

The grading period for the first 9-weeks ended on Thursday, October 28th. All grades for that grading period will be up-to-date on Wednesday, November 10th. Please check PowerSchool for the final 9-weeks grades. Paper copies of report cards will not be sent home except for those families who requested them during registration.


As always, PowerSchool is a great tool for students and families to utilize as a form of communication regarding student progress. If you need assistance with accessing your student's account, please contact the school and we'll be happy to assist you.

Fundraiser Performance

Next weekend is the fundraiser performance of ALL TOGETHER NOW. Our students, a combination of TA Choral and Theatre students and special guests Pence Theatre students, have been working hard to bring you this musical spectacular. Even Mrs. Blakeney and I are performing! We will have in person and live streamed performances on November 12th at 7:00 and November 14th at 2:30. Please come and support these students and the Choral and Theatre Departments at TAHS! Only $10 - please spread the word!


Some of the songs being performed are: "Pure Imagination" from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, "Matchmaker" from Fiddler on the Roof, "We're All in this Together" from High School Musical, "Seize The Day" from Newsies and many beautiful solos from Les Miserables, Waitress, Jekyll & Hyde, Into the Woods, Mamma Mia and many more!

As you are attending extracurricular events outside of the school day, please consider uploading your photos to our yearbook photo database. Sometimes the best pictures are taken by you. We would love to potentially include these in our 2022 yearbook. Access https://www.hjeshare.com/eShare/?code=pencems in order to add your photos. Please note that you must include the grade level(s) and name(s) of any student in the photo. If this information is not included, your photo will not be added to the database. Starting Monday, students may preorder a yearbook with cash or check. If paying in cash, correct change is appreciated. Order forms will NOT be sent home. Your student will need to bring a payment to Mrs. Dove, in room 201, during homeroom in the morning and will fill out an order form then.
