Israeli-Palestinian conflict
By. Jessica James
Why did the Israeli-Palestinian conflict start?
At the end of WW2, the United Nations gave the land of Israel to the Jewish people to be their homeland instead of the Palestinians. After seeing the evidence of the holocaust, the world was horrified at the death and torture that the Jews had endured. Even still, many nations were still prejudiced enough that they didn't want them "in my back yard", so the Jews and Allies agreed that the land of Israel would be given to the Jews. Immediately the rest of the Middle East vowed that the Jews would not be welcome as neighbors and that Islam would drive the Jews into the Sea.
Why has it continued?
There is still a lot of distrust between the Israelis and the Palestinians. Because of this distrust they can't resolve this conflict. There is still lots of violence and hostility between the two.
What are the key issues that must be addressed for it to end?
In order for this conflict to end they must both address these remaining key issues; mutual recognition, borders, security, water rights, control of Jerusalem, Israeli settlements, Palestinian freedom of movement and legalities concerning refugees.
