Early Works Visit
Look where EES Kindergarten classes traveled back in time to...Early Works! Guess who our students met? Laura Ingalls Wilder, Davy Crockett, George Washington Carver, Betsy Ross, and other notable famous Americans. Where else can you visit a log cabin, be welcomed aboard a keelboat, churn butter, and dance a Virginia Reel? Super history adventure!

Spring Fling Dance
For several weeks the 4th and 5th Graders have been looking forward to their annual end of the year Spring Fling Dance sponsored by the Student Council. Last Friday the kids had a blast looking super sharp, dancing to Mr. Durham’s DJ party mix, and hanging out with good friends. Kudos go to Student Council’s Ms. Dill and Mrs. Fletcher for an awesome event!
Mother's Day Tea
This week the 4th Grade honored their mothers with a Mother's Day Tea. Moms and significant ladies were treated to original poems and personal quotes describing love shared. Each student presented their guest with a hand drawn framed picture and showed a Google slides presentation of several types of poems creatively written. Parents had a chance to pose at the photo booth and enjoy a delicious treat with their child. Moms were happily impressed on this memorable day!
Which Molecule is Which?
Students learned about states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. They discussed molecules, elements, and atoms. They saw which state of matter is more condensed, spread out, and expanded. Now they ask, “Can I get some H20?”

Mrs. Amy Moore's 4th grade class isn't slowing down! They made their own lava today noting each step of the rock cycle including igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks! Their lava was HOT and they were on FIRE presenting the process together using Google Classroom and Chatter Pix! #MakeItHappen #BeBoldMCSS
Landscaping Project at MXR!
Mrs. Sears's class is working on our greenhouse area. They used their math skills to measure the area and calculate the number of pavers needed, and then they laid the landscaping fabric and pavers. Math is everywhere! Just check out their progress and see!

Spring Fling
On Saturday May 5, MMS hosted its first ever Spring Fling! The MMS PTO partnered with local organizations and school clubs to create a spring carnival to celebrate our fantastic school year. This event featured a Knockerball arena, inflatables, an Art Auction, a Library Putt Putt course, Karaoke, Trivia, Bingo, Food Trucks, snack walk, a family movie, and more. It was attended by hundreds of people and everyone had a great time!

Sparkman Softball Wins Area 8 Championship
2018 National Spanish Examinations.
Students from Sparkman High School earned a total of TWO gold, NINE silver and ONE bronze medals along with EIGHT honorable mentions. “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 150,000 students participating in 2018.”

Receiving Silver were: Evan Bowers, Megan McNabb, Kaylee Stewart, Samantha Walker, Holly Jennings, Wilson Justininao, Emme Beach, Chris Meininger, and Josiah Drake.

Coach Rauls was chosen to coach the North All-Stars Softball team along with Spring Garden's Ann Welsh and Bob Jones' Kent Chambers who is serving as the administrative coach.
Lady Bucks Softball Advance to Regionals
After a loss to Sparkman in game 2, the Lady Bucks rallied and beat James Clemens, 5-3, to advance to the 7A Area 8 Championship game. The Lady Bucks fought hard, but came up short and finished as the 7A Area 8 Runners-up! However, with the game 2 win against JCHS, the Lady Bucks secured their spot in the Regional Tournament. The AHSAA North Regional Tournament will be this week at the Metro Kiwanis Sportsplex. The Lady Bucks will take on Hewitt-Trussville on May 11th at 9:00 a.m. Come out and support the Lady Bucks!!! #BuckPride

4th Graders Morph into Superheroes
NMS 4th Grade teachers, Mrs. Faith Gierhart, Mrs. Kim Borgert and Mrs. Jenny Ezell, have implemented a new spelling program centered on morphology. Our students have grown significantly this year and have loved this new approach to spelling. As a culminating activity they created a superhero based on a Greek or Latin root they chose to study. The students presented their superhero they created to family and friends in the library.
Kindergarten DIBELS Benchmark
Tech Center Students Help Kindergarten Grow
Madison County Career And Technical Horticulture and FFA students visited NMS kindergarteners to teach them about plants. The tech students collaborated with the teachers to organize fun games and activities for the little learners. The students participated in peat pot races, planting a tomato plant to take home, learned about bees and how they pollinate and planted beautiful flowers at their school. Thank you so much MCCTC students for sharing with these students and helping beautify NMS!
6th Grade Earthquake Simulation
Students' in Mrs. Moore's 6th grade science class were challenged to design and build a model house that could withstand ground vibrations during an earthquake. Students had the choice of using dry sand, harden sand, or plaster for the foundation. Then, they designed their structures using toothpicks and marshmallows. The pictures are of the three designs that withstood the best during the simulated earthquake vibrations.
NMS Budding Artists
Several students at New Market had their art showcased this weekend at the Panoply Art Fest in Downtown Huntsville. New Market School had thirty-four masterpieces displayed from students ranging from Kindergarten to 6th grade. We are very proud of our little artists and thankful to Ms. Anna Parks for directing them in their creativity!!

What a GREAT week! Third graders totally rocked Scantron! We had our Multiplication Ice-cream Sundae party after testing. For every number they knew the multiplication table for, they got to add a topping to their ice cream. Way to go, students!
Thank you to Beekeepers Gary Hartwig and Kay Campbell for sharing their love and knowledge of bees with our Kindergarteners! Each class received a jar of local honey to enjoy 🍯!

NTHS Seniors- Graduating seniors received their NTHS Cords at MCCTC Award’s Day on May 2nd.
Andrea Shockley
Andrea Shockley from HGHS earned three industry recognized credentials this year, as well as earned a $1250/semester scholarship in Horticulture from Wallace State Community College. She was also recognized for placing at the FFA Competition at both the State and National level.
