Teachers visit from Singapore
Dear Mr Sener,
Thank you for your great hospitality today. We had an enriching experience learning about your school today. It was an eye-opener and we had a fulfilling time learning from yourself about the school and the brand of education system that you have built. Your teachers were forthcoming in sharing with us their good practices and we really appreciate it.
Once again, our heartfelt thanks to you for having us today. We look forward to meeting you if you or your teachers were to travel to Singapore and visit our school. We also welcome any possible online collaboration with your school. Please feel free to write to us.

Middle Grades steam workshops at The High
On the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th of March, FSAPS middle school students had the opportunity to attend a special STEAM program at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art. Each grade travelled to the museum separately to take part in the program, in which they learned how the “A”, or “Art” in STEAM was an integral part of their curriculum and how other academic disciplines are used in the creation of art.
During the program, students were led on a tour of several exhibits from African art to contemporary art and all things in between. In doing so, they were given hands-on experience with the materials used to create artworks throughout history, from the dark and vivid hues of early Italian artists that used egg tempura paint through the modern oils and acrylics of today.
There were several special exhibitions on display during the visit. These included works by Vik Muniz, widely thought of as one of the most innovative artists of the 21st century, as well as the impossible-looking dresses of Iris van Herpen which take their inspiration from nature, technology, and even philosophy to create unique costumes.
Students also participated in a workshop where they were tasked with using all of their STEAM skills to design objects which are both practical and aesthetically pleasing in order to solve real issues facing the world. Examples of issues to look at included water filtration, traffic control, animal shelters, and keeping birds from office windows.
Following the exhibits and workshop, students enjoyed lunch on the lawn outside the museum before returning to school with a new appreciation for the role science, technology, engineering, and math play in the creation of art of all kinds and how art can influence those disciplines as well.
School Store is Open!
Thanks to our wonderful student council, we now have a school store in our cafeteria.
Drinks, snacks and school supplies will be available to purchase from school store at good prices. Please do not send large amounts of cash to school with your child.
The store will be open before school, and during lunch and club time.
The school store is being managed by our middle school students and any profit will be used to benefit our athletic programs.

Benefitting Students
Are you looking for something your child can do over the summer to stay on top of their academics? The Summer Skills books are three different series of review books (math, language arts, and foreign language) for students from pre-k through high school. Each grade level book helps students maintain their academic skills over the summer months. If you are looking for something to help your child review and stay sharp over the summer, please consider ordering these Summer Skills Workbooks for your FSAPS child. Orders should be turned in to your child’s homeroom teacher no later than Friday, April 22nd.
Please see the Parent Letter/Order Form that came home with your child. There are extra copies of this form at the front office if needed. You can purchase each workbook for your child for $19.00 each. You can choose which subjects you would like to purchase for your child. On the order form, please indicate which subjects and grades you would like to order. You should be ordering the grade level they have completed this year – this will serve as a fantastic review of the skills they have learned this year, so they are ready for the beginning of the next school year. Mortimer – By Robert Munsch
Robert Munsch is a Canada’s most popular writer for children. He is still MY personal favorite! His books are loved by kids across the country and around the world. Our clubs favorite story is called “Mortimer.”
Mortimer by Robert Munsch
Its Mortimer’s bedtime, but he would much rather sing his rowdy song. Mom, Dad and even the police can’t get him to quiet down, until they become so distracted by each other that Mortimer drifts off to sleep.
This story belongs to the Repetition section of the Touchstone Books. Books found in this section all have some repeating sentences or phrases, rhymes or rhythms. Students are able to make educated guesses on what comes next in the story due to the fact that parts are repeated at regular intervals.
“Cling Clang Rattle Bing Bang, gonna make my noise all day,
Cling Clang Rattle Bing Bang, gonna make my noise all day!”
This club is designed for the young musician to recognize there is music in everything. Students are introduced to stories that turn magical when sound effects and musical lines are added. They are able to get their creative juices flowing while reading a simple story by improvising sounds through both pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments, voice, and body percussion. This club also encourages reading and creating sounds individually, with a partner and in a group environment. We also enjoy putting movements to our songs, stories and sounds. Most stories encourage not only musical growth, but also teaches important character traits like honesty, integrity, and friendship.
NJHS club is collecting Box Tops- competition update
This semester the NJHS club is collecting Box Tops for Education for our school! For each Box Top collected, our school will receive 10¢. Box Tops cannot be accepted if they are expired! In order for your Box Top submission to be counted for your homeroom, please write your homeroom teacher’s name on a bag and include your Box Tops in the bag before placing them in the collection box. For more information on Box Tops, including a list of participating products to find them on, go to BTFE.com. If you have any questions, please email Ms. Rucker at rrucker@fultonscienceacademy.org.
***Update: Mrs. Kanov’s Pre-K class is still in the lead! The final count will take place on Thursday, March 31st during club time, and the winning homeroom will be announced on Friday morning, so make sure you send in those Box Tops before club time on Thursday! FSA Health Policy Reminder
It seems that cold and flu season is upon us and in full swing. We would like to remind you of our school policy regarding communicable illnesses and give you some helpful tips for staying healthy. We are beginning to see a lot of students at the front office with communicable illnesses and many of them mention that they were sick before leaving home, but their parents encouraged them to come to school. Please let me remind you that control measures and periods of exclusion are very important at a time like this in order to keep down the spread of these illnesses.
If we all follow these guidelines and simple steps, it will help to combat the spread of illness throughout our school and in your homes.
School guidelines regarding communicable illness:
1. The student should remain at home until being symptom free for 24 hours. This means that your child may not return to school until 24 hours from their last vomiting or diarrhea episode.
2. If the student experiences a fever during an illness, they should be “fever free” for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication before returning to school.
3. If the diagnosis is strep throat, the student should remain at home for 24 hours after starting the first dose of antibiotic treatment.
4. During any communicable illness, the student should be symptom free and fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. If your child has the flu, they should provide a doctor's note stating they can return to school.
IMPORTANT DISMISSAL PROCEDURES ANNOUNCEMENT
For the safety of our students:

School closes at 6 pm, any students remaining will be under the care of staff waiting to go home.
If a parent is coaching a club or at a parent conference siblings or carpooling students need to be in Study Hall or After Care (no fee incurred).

Uniform and locker Reminder
A reminder that all non-uniform jackets need to be taken off and left in lockers or cubbies after arriving at school. Jackets should be worn for outside recess, but must be returned to lockers or cubbies after that. Wearing a non-uniform jacket during class is a violation of the dress code, which results in conduct points.
