Dear Families

It has been great to see our children in our yard enjoying not only play but also learning.

Many classes are taking to the outdoors to engage in reading, writing and mathematical tasks. We are lucky we have a great yard with much grass and seating.

Hats

As our weather is getting warmer, we need to be conscious of wearing hats and applying sunscreen. We have a wearing hats policy for term one and four so we would be grateful if all children could have their hat at school every day. Their health and safety are important to us all.

Reading

We know that learning has been interrupted heaps this year. Daily reading is something that we can all engage in, is something easy to do and something that we believe will be beneficial to every learner. By reading heaps our writing, our mathematics, our oral language and our knowledge all improve. So please engage you children in books by reading to them, reading with them, and letting them read by themselves.

Uniforms

We love to see all our children feeling just as important and valued as each other. Wearing a uniform helps everyone feel the same, it eliminates competition and makes everyone proud to be a Bourchier St PS student. If you need any uniform supplies, please call our office, we may be able to help as we have some second hands items. We encourage the wearing of full uniform every day.

COVID-19

Unfortunately, COVID is still with us. I want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to keep everyone safe and healthy.

We have had a couple of reported COVID positive cases this week.

The Department of Education and Training has advised us that no action is required at this stage due to the length of time since the children who were confirmed to have COVID-19 were onsite. All cases have been in isolation so not infectious here at school.

Our school has also been undertaking its daily cleaning including sanitising all high-touch points throughout the school. This has been endorsed by the Department of Health.

If you or anyone in your family develops even the mildest of symptoms, please get tested.

If you have questions about what this means for our school, please call the Department of Education and Training COVID-19 hotline on 1800 338 663, available 8:30am to 5pm Monday through Friday, and 10am to 3pm Saturday and Sunday.

If you are concerned you have COVID-19 you can call the Department of Health COVID-19 hotline on 1800 675 398, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

For school information in languages other than English, call TIS National on 131 450. Please ask them to call the DET COVID-19 hotline on 1800 338 663 and they will help interpret. For health advice in languages other than English, visit coronavirus.vic.gov.au/translated-information-about-coronavirus-covid-19.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during these challenging times.

2022

We are beginning to create classes for 2022. We take many things into account, spend a lot of time discussing your child’s needs and try to place them in the best possible class that will enhance their learning. Please contact me if you wish to discuss anything in relation to your child’s class placement.

Kind regards

Denise Howley

Year 5 Kidpreneur

The Year 5s have been busy creating Kidpreneur businesses and developing products and services to provide to the whole school throughout ‘Market Week’ in Week 8. Each team had to come up with and pitch an idea for a product of service that would fill a gap in the market or satisfy a want or need of their customers. All business teams were successful in their pitch and received a $30 initial investment from the school which will be paid back from their profits. Students have collaborated to create advertisements, create shopping lists within their budget and organise the visual merchandising of their stall. We have businesses selling cupcakes, smoothies, jewellery and face masks, servicing bikes and scooters, cleaning classrooms and organising games with prizes. All classes will be able to enjoy the advertisements throughout this week and decide which stalls they would like to support during Market Week. Have a look at the promotional video below to see our Year 5s explaining the Kidpreneur program. Thanks in anticipation for your support of our amazing Year 5s and their businesses.
