iCanBike Volunteers Needed!
AutismUp is presenting an iCanBike Camp, July 24-28, 2023 at the Golisano Training Center located on the Nazareth College campus! The week-long camp teaches individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other disabilities, to ride a conventional bike without training wheels. Specialized, adaptive cycling equipment is utilized by certified instructors and an army of volunteer spotters that build confidence, skill and ultimately, success.
With a nearly 100% success rate, the program changes the lives of children and teens by teaching them a skill that builds self-confidence, provides an inclusive recreation opportunity with peers, and encourages a lifetime of fun and exercise.
The riding sessions will be 1 hour and 15 minutes long, ranging between 8:15a- 4:30p. We would hope for volunteers to be consistent throughout the week. Potential volunteers can email me at mdimartin@autismup.org with any additional questions or inquiries. Or, visit our website: autismup.org
Thank you in advance for any help with getting this word out!

SAT & ACT Updates
If you have questions specific to BHS testing procedures, please reach out to Deirdre Carter: deirdre_carter@bcsd.org. As things are changing so often, please refer to the testing sites for updated information:
Standardized exams have traditionally been a part of the college application. This year, due to COVID, many schools allowed students the option of submitting test scores or not. Juniors- It's safe to say it's a good idea to get an exam or two under your belt if you are thinking of applying to a four-year college. Below is some brief information about the two exams and the website to check out to get more information/sign up for the exams.
SAT
Collegeboard.org
- Designed to measure academic aptitude in verbal and numerical reasoning.
- Test Content: Reading, Math and Writing.
- Cost $55.00 (w/o writing)
ACT
Actstudent.org
- Designed to measure academic achievement.
- Test Content: English, Math, Reading and Science Reasoning.
- Cost $60.00 (w/o writing)
- Cost $80.00 (with writing)
Visit www.fairtest.org for a list of colleges that do not require standardized tests. Check in with your counselor about a Fee Waiver , if needed, to help cover the costs of the exams.

STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES (504s & IEPS)
SAT- The BHS Counseling Office applies for all College Board test mods prior to your sophomore year (this summer). If approved, these will apply to all future SAT & AP Exams
ACT- you MUST REGISTER FOR AN ACT EXAM before we can apply for your test mods. Be sure to sign up early, indicate you will be requesting accommodations, and let your counselor know ASAP so we can get them processed before the test date. This typically takes 6-8 weeks.
Remember- both College Board and ACT are private companies. They have the right to approve or deny any test modifications you may have. If you have any questions, please reach out to your counselor or College Board/ACT for more information.
Academic Supports
FEV Tutoring Support for 3-12 grade students
Great news! This school year, Brighton has chosen to partner with FEV Tutor to provide you with free, school-sponsored, 1:1 online tutoring as a support resource as we begin the school year. This virtual service will be available to students from 3pm-10pm daily and also on weekends as needed. By logging in to student accounts through Class Link, students will be able to request to work with a tutor in minutes for an On-Demand session. On the FEV platform, students will be able to upload and share files directly with their tutors so that they can provide support with specific assignments or projects.
If you have any questions about this free virtual tutoring program, please contact FEV Tutor directly at: support@fevtutor.com or call 855-763-2607. FEV's Support Team is happy to answer any questions and work with you to create a personalized tutoring experience that best suits your learner! Take this opportunity to help your student reach their academic goals when they need support outside of school hours. We look forward to supporting our Brighton students!
Rochester Peer Tutoring
A youth organization connecting Rochester high school and college students with their peers to share their passion in an academic area or an extracurricular activity.
Hello, we hope you are doing well! Our names are Delia Zhangfeng and Bhuvana Chimmiri, and we are the co-founders of Rochester Peer Tutoring. Our mission is to connect students to peers who can help guide them throughout their learning journey.
We are an organization created last year with the intent to provide struggling students with extra support. With the pandemic hitting, we know that many students may feel overwhelmed with their challenging courses and heavy workloads. While our mission does extend beyond the COVID situation, we know that students need, now more than ever, easily accessible resources and support.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to email us at rocpeertutor@gmail.com.
