To Forget A Lifetime

Alzheimer's Disease
Alzheimer's Disease is a disease that eventually destroys your memory. I am interested in finding out what is actually happening to the brain of someone who was diagnosed with this disease. My research could not only help me fully understand the disease, but it could also help anyone else who does not comprehend Alzheimer's.
What is going on in the brain?
When someone is first diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease their brain starts to fail. Existing nerve connections start to disappear and new nerve connections are not able to form. The information that is stored in those connections is lost. The disease also destroys brain cells.
Research
Alzheimer's is a disease that still does not have a cure so psychologists are doing everything they can to try and cure this terrible disease. The Alzheimer's Association Medical and Scientific Advisory Council (MSAC) is responsible for research that identifys new studies and also makes sure that all the studies are scientifically correct. Researchers are trying to find a new drug that will cure Alzheimer's, but with trial and error it is taking longer than they hoped. There are drugs that can help with the symptoms but nothing has been invented to cure the long term effects of the disease.
