Nanci Pelosi's $3T stimulus plan, receives backlash from republicans
On Tuesday, House Speaker Nanci Pelosi unveiled a new, expensive 3 trillion dollar bill created towards federal aid to help during the coronavirus pandemic. The bill is organized where $1 trillion would go to state, local, and tribal governments. The bill would also include a round of $1,200 stimulus payments that would go out to most Americans.
After the bill was proposed it received backlash from Republics. House leader Kevin McCarthy said the bill is a "liberal wishlist that has no chance of becoming a law". Many of the Republic backlash is targeted towards the large amount of spending this bill enacts after the amount of spending the government has already spent during the pandemic. There are also parts of the bill that call for expanding direct payment eligibility to many more people than last time including undocumented immigrants that Republican are not happy with.
While the bill is being questioned by Republican Pelosi argues the urgency of this bill, "This is a moment when millions of our fellow Americans are deep in suffering". While the bill is spending large amounts of money many people believe this is what we need in a time like this. Many supports of the bill also believe that the bills plans of providing substantial funding for state and local governments is essential to getting our nation back on its feet.
