Sharing Second Grade
A Peek at Our Week
April 16 - 20, 2018
MATH:
2.2 - Students will wrap up the geometry unit this week. They will review partitioning circles and rectangles into two, three, and four equal shares, and describing the shares using the words; halves, thirds, fourths. They will also continue to identify and write fractional parts of a whole. They will draw picture and bar graphs to show data and solve comprehension problems using information in the graphs. Students will take the post assessment on Thursday. As always, continue to practice addition and subtraction facts at home!
3.1 - Students completed the unit 2 assessment and I am very proud of their hard work! Next week we'll begin our last unit, Patterns in Addition and Multiplication. Please open the following link to read the parent letter detailing what students will be studying: https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Frameworks/Unit-3-3rd-grade-parent-letter.pdf. Also, please continue studying those multiplication facts. Many of the errors on the unit test were due to incorrect multiplication facts. When you practice with your student, please have them say the whole problem along with the answer, for example; 6x8=48, instead of just the answer.
3.2 - This week students will continue working on the geometry unit. They will identify plane shapes and describe their attributes. They will learn to compare shapes and explain how attributes can be used to classify different shapes. Keep practicing addition, subtraction, and multiplication facts!
READING: This week students will begin reading a book series with their partners. (Examples of series include: Horrible Harry, Cam Jansen, Frog and Toad, etc) They will collect information about the main characters and examine how the characters feel and behave. They will discover what kinds of trouble the characters encounter and how they respond to those difficulties.
WRITING:
Students are beginning an exciting new unit! They will learn to write about favorite books in ways that will persuade others to love them as much as they do! This week students will begin to write letters about characters they've met in books. They will learn to formulate opinions and to support their ideas with reasons, details, and examples from their text.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
This week students will learn about the lives and contributions of famous Georgians; Jimmy Carter and Juliette Gordon Low.
