May 2021 Newsletter
AVID Overview - Spring 2021
- We have been so lucky to welcome our AVID tutor, Mrs. Jackson, to a few of our classes! She helps to guide our collaborative study groups and challenges us to use the study skills we have learned in AVID.
- AVID students spent a few weeks completing some pretty amazing college & career focused interviews. They each reached out to a person in their lives that they admire for their college and/or career journeys and interviewed them, asking high-level open ended questions. Our AVID classes learned so much from so many different professionals, including an electrical engineer, a nutritionist, a nurse, a teacher (Ms. Dillenberger!), a historian, a lawyer and judge, a nurse, an architect, a PA student (Ms. Cohen's sister!), and a veterinarian technician (Julia Simms - Mr. Simms' wife!).
- We have been recruiting for our 2021-2022 AVID classes. We have a fantastic group of 5th graders joining the AVID family next year as well as some new 7th and 8th grade faces who are already at OHMS!
- Our FABULOUS wellness counselor and mural extraordinaire , Ms. Montemayor, is leading the AVID and ESL classes in the designing process and the painting of a mural on our portable building!! We are SO excited.
