ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Friends and Families,
Each morning we begin our day with student announcers reciting the CCS pledge:
At CCS, we take care of ourselves;
We take care of others;
We take care of this place.
It is clear that the act of taking care of our community is alive and well throughout our extended CCS community as this was another week to think about how fortunate we are to be part of a supportive and generous community. Recently, a very generous donation to CCS school lunch debts made life a little less stressful for some of our Charlotte families. No child in school have to worry about how their breakfast or hot lunch will be paid for. The local outpouring of generosity continued with CCS families in grades K-4 donating to the annual Thanksgiving Food Baskets. Grades 5-8 will be collecting donations between Thanksgiving and December breaks to create Winter Food Baskets.
Next to warm, hearty foods, connecting to books is also a wonderful way to nurture our students. Educator and author Erin Rounds visited CCS on Thursday and spent time with our 3rd and 4th graders to talk about her book "Charlotte's Bones: the Beluga Whale in a Farmer's Field." She encouraged students to "find their own stories" after describing how the story of the Charlotte whale just stuck with her until she decided that it needed to be turned into a book. What a wonderful connection to our local Charlotte Community!
We wish all of our students, staff, families and community members a safe and relaxing Thanksgiving week. We are thankful for our wonderful extended school community!
Warm Regards,
Stephanie, Jen and Cassandra

PARENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES - SPELLING BEE AND GEOBEE
We will be gearing up for the late winter/early spring Scripps National Spelling Bee and National Geographic GeoBee. Typically, parent volunteers run practices for a few days each week in the two weeks prior to the events and help organize and run the preliminary rounds and school bees. Running practices requires parents to be cleared as fingerprinted volunteers. Please email Stephanie Sumner at ssumner@cvsdvt.org if you are interested in volunteering for any aspect of these opportunities for our students.
SCHOOL LIBRARY NEWS
Students in grades K-2 finished our Global Readaloud unit this week! Our Global Readaloud community included readers from places as close as Canada, and as far away as Thailand. We think there are many more awesome books about the things that connect us, no matter where in the world we live. Check out this link to explore this "Global Kids" list of books available to borrow from our school library!
