Our Obstacle Course Fun Run is Friday!
What an awesome job our students (and you) have done with our WCHE Elementary Obstacle Course Fun Run fundraiser. You should be congratulated for all your efforts! Our Obstacle Course Fun Run is Friday, and we are in the final stretch now! Remember that funds raised from our Obstacle Course Fun Run will be used to pay for Student and Teacher Enrichment Programs!
PREPARING STUDENTS FOR FRIDAY:
- Every student will receive an APEX t-shirt to wear at the event.
- Every student should wear comfortable shoes to run in.
- Every student should get a good night’s sleep.
- Every student should eat a healthy breakfast (and lunch for those who may be running in the afternoon).
- Every student should stay hydrated – start today.
- And, every student should remember to apply sunscreen.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! If every student got just 1 MORE sponsor tonight for $1/obstacle or a $30 flat donation, that would INCREASE our total earnings for our school by over $8,000… in just one night!!! Login at www.MyApexEvent.com using your student’s access code to enter pledges.
APEX GIVES BACK: Apex Leadership Co has partnered with the Thirst Project (the world’s largest youth water org) again this year to help end the global water crisis. For every student who reaches $10 per lap pledged for their school, Apex will make a donation (on their dime) to help provide up to 4 years of clean drinking water for those in need. This is a great way to show kids that they can help change the world!

Tigers Need Room to S-T-R-E-T-C-H ...............Morning Assembly Changes
If you have had the opportunity to join our Friday morning assemblies lately, you likely have noticed how cozy the gym has become because of our growing student enrollment. We now have more than nine hundred Tigers, and Tigers, here as well as in the jungle, need room to stretch!
Our Friday morning assemblies traditionally have been attended by all students plus many of their friends and family members. The assemblies are a time to celebrate Tiger accomplishments and to share information with our Tiger families. Thus, these assemblies are important to us and to our Tigers as a special time for them to be recognized for their positive efforts in the classroom.
To ensure our Tiger families are in a safe environment, we are making a few changes. Beginning Friday, November 1, for most of our student assemblies, approximately one-half of the Tigers will attend the assembly while the other half view the assembly from their classrooms via live stream.
Therefore, the November 1 assembly will be attended by Kindergarten, 1st Graders, and 2nd Graders while the rest of the students view the assembly from their classrooms. The November 8 assembly will be attended by 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders while the rest of the Tigers watch from their classrooms. We occasionally will still have an all-school assembly for extra-special events, and we are noting in Tiger Talk and on our school's website calendar the dates of our assemblies and which students are invited to each of them.
Our Tigers are thrilled when family and friends come to see them receive their awards, and by making these scheduling changes, we continue to be able to provide a comfortable and safe assembly room that can accommodate Tigers, their families, and their friends. We hope these scheduling changes do not cause our Tigers or their friends and families any inconvenience.
Tigers need room to stretch, you know!
Wall of Fame for Shoe Tying!
If your Kinder, 1st Grader, and/or Second Grader can tie his/her shoes, please notify Coaches Mirizzi and Cadorette because they want to honor this accomplishment in the school gym on our WALL OF FAME FOR SHOE TYING!
Once notified of the student's successful shoe-tying accomplishment, we will provide your student with a paper shoe to color, take the student's photo, and then post the photo and customized paper shoe on our WALL OF FAME FOR SHOE TYING!
It's going to be really exciting to see our young Tigers on our WALL OF FAME!
Improvement to Reporting Student Grades----We have moved to Electronic Reports!
With the implementation of Skyward Family Access, we are pleased to inform you that LTISD report cards for students in grades K-12 were made available electronically beginning with our first grading period this fall.
Parents may view their child’s report card via Skyward Family Access after 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 17. As a reminder, Skyward Family Access works well from desktop computers and is also available as a mobile application that can be used to access student data, including report cards, from most mobile devices.
Please note, student report cards will no longer be printed. Parents without internet or mobile access may obtain a paper copy of their child’s report card by contacting the school.
We are excited about the move to electronic report cards and the efficiencies they create for our parents and families. Please contact us should you have any questions or concerns.

WCHE Kindness Week is October 28 through November 1
Our School Counselor, Mrs. Sheila White, announces that October 28 - November 1 will be deemed Kindness Week at West Cypress Hills. With much thought and collaboration, we plan to follow our exciting weeks of APEX Leadership lessons with a week of dress-up days and activities that we hope will foster a sense of community on our campus and remind us all of the importance of promoting kindness.
With these goals in mind, we plan to encourage kindness through various classroom and school-wide activities. A part of this will be a community service drive benefiting SAFE Austin (Stop Abuse for Everyone.) We will place SAFE donation boxes at the main entrance (front entry) so that Tigers can show kindness to our community by placing in the collection boxes new and unopened goods, such as:
- hair brushes, hair accessories
- size 4, 5, & 6 diapers, pull-ups, and wipes
- body wash, lotion, shampoo, conditioner
- socks, underwear, shoes, and sweatpants
- toothbrushes & toothpaste
- cleaning supplies, mops, brooms
- towels, wash cloths, shower curtains, bath mats/rugs
- twin-size sheets and blankets
- laundry detergent and baskets
- canned goods
- box meals, instant potatoes
- cereal, oatmeal
- food storage bags, facial tissues, trash bags
- paper towels, toilet tissue
- hand sanitizer
Another fun part of the week will include promoting acts of kindness, illustrated by dress-up days. Our staff and student dress-up days are as follows:
- Monday...........Dress in Neon/Bright Colors and "Brighten Someone's Day!"
- Tuesday..........Dress in Camo and "Band Together for Kindness."
- Wednesday.....Dress in Sports Attire and "Team Up for Kindness."
- Thursday........Dress in Character Costume for "Kindness in Costume" (please, no weapons, blood, or masks)
- Friday.............Dress in Tiger Spirit Wear for "Tigers Stand Together!"
You can find more information about SAFE here. And, if you have any questions concerning WCHE Kindness week, feel free to contact Mrs. White.
