Summit Report
September 29, 2022
A Note from Principal Mica Harasek
Hello Mighty Mountaineer Families,
It’s hard to believe we’ve been back in school for a month already! Time has gone by quickly and students and staff have settled into routines.
One question that has come up this year is around our closed campus policy. This past summer, we had a fence placed around campus to completely secure it, which means anyone coming onto campus, or leaving, must go through the office. When someone checks in at the office, a volunteer badge is given and worn so we know they have checked in at the office. Safety is my number one concern, and the closed campus helps me monitor who is on campus.
We are also using our placards at the end of the day as a safety measure. Our staff knows most of the vehicles / families, but in case we have a guest staff member or a student who is new at Seattle Hill the placard helps us know that the driver is an authorized person to picking up your student.
We have our Open House / Great Expectations on October 6 and I hope we’ll have a chance to meet at this event if we haven’t yet. I am truly blessed to be here at Seattle Hill Elementary with you and your students. They make me smile every day!
Warmly,
Principal Mica Harasek

Bussing with Friends
Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate buddy passes for busses this year. Our busses are currently at capacity, and do not have room for additional students. If your child will be going home with a friend or has an after-school playdate, please arrange your own transportation and notify the attendance office of your plans. Thank you for your understanding!
Open House/Great Expectations
This event will be on Thursday, October 6, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. This is a great opportunity to get to know the school, the staff, and meet other families at Seattle Hill. Since conferences are coming up soon, we will be focusing on social interactions and building relationships during this event. If you have concerns or needs that cannot wait for conferences, please reach out to your teacher and schedule a meeting so we can all work together in a private setting with time to address everything.
We will start in the gym so families can meet the Seattle Hill staff and our amazing Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) team. Afterwards, your student will take you on a trip through the school with their Seattle Hill Passport. Once you have visited all the locations on the passport, your student and their siblings will be able to enjoy a treat on campus while you mingle and meet others with them.
Passport Destinations:
1. Classroom to show their families their workspace and work / Highly Capable Program will have an academic presentation
2. The library
3. Your gym

Would you like to volunteer?
Volunteers are valued partners in the education of Snohomish School District students. We encourage family and community members, as well as local businesses, to consider serving in our schools. Not able to volunteer during school hours? Many schools offer volunteer opportunities that can be completed at home. Volunteering is an excellent way to demonstrate to our students the value our community places in their education and their school.
Volunteers in the "educational setting" are required to be fully vaccinated or have an approved religious or medical exemption per state Proclamation 21-14.5. On Friday, May 20, 2022, Governor Inslee amended the state's vaccination proclamation to exclude the vaccination requirement for volunteers and contractors whose work is primarily in an outdoor setting.
Volunteers in the "educational setting" whose work is primarily indoors must show proof of COVID-19 vaccination (boosters not required) or have an approved religious or medical exemption on file with the school district. Volunteers seeking a religious or medical exemption should contact their building principal for more information on the approval process for those types of exemptions.
To volunteer in our district, all volunteers must also complete the online form below. For the safety of our students, volunteer applicants must undergo a Washington State Patrol background check before beginning service. This process must be completed every two years.
- Click here to complete the online volunteer application process
- Click here to download the Snohomish School District volunteer handbook - English
- Click here to download the Snohomish School District volunteer handbook - Spanish
- Volunteer athletic coaches - Prior to beginning any volunteer coaching activity, it is the responsibility of the volunteer to meet with the head coach, building athletic director and complete and submit all required paperwork. Click here to download the required volunteer coach paperwork.
A background check will be conducted after you submit your online application. You will then receive an email with your approval status. Volunteer applications are valid for two years from the approval date. Upon approval, please bring the email and badge received to the school office where you will be volunteering.
If you do not have a valid photo identification, or if you have limited access to email and the internet, please let us know. For more information, please contact us at 360-563-7280 or volunteers@sno.wednet.edu.

School & District News
- Listserv - If you would like to receive district and school newsletters, or if you have a high school student who wants to receive the school Daily Bulletin, please subscribe to our listserv subscription tool. For directions on how to subscribe or change your subscription preferences (for those already signed up), please click here.
- Facebook - Today, 10,000 Facebook fans receive regular district updates through our district's Facebook page - www.facebook.com/snohomishschooldistrict. This site is just one of many ways we communicate with our students, staff, families and community. Although we are aware of other Facebook pages, please note that this is the only verified Facebook page of the Snohomish School District and is where official information is posted.
- School Messenger - Our district uses the School Messenger automated system as a tool for communication with our parents, families and staff. School Messenger works with the district’s student-data system (Skyward/Family Access) to notify families and staff through phone and/or email of emergencies, critical school and district messages, school/district closures, inclement weather, attendance issues, underfunded student meal accounts and other events/activities. The overall goal of using this service is for parents and families to receive critical information about Snohomish schools - especially information that affects their children - in a timely manner. As long as we have accurate primary phone numbers and email addresses on record for our students in Skyward/Family Access, families should automatically receive these messages when they are sent out.
