DJUSD Bond Program Newsletter

FEBRUARY 2020

Welcome to the DJUSD Bond Program Newsletter

This e-newsletter will be published monthly to provide our community with updates on all Bond projects and other important facility upgrades happening in DJUSD.

Solar to Shine on DJUSD Campuses

DJUSD is developing a Solar Master Plan with an eye to developing solar projects in our District. These projects would be paid for through future financing and would offset approximately 80% of our energy needs Districtwide. Watch for updates and discover more about the DJUSD Bond Program.

Charge!

DJUSD is pursuing regional grant opportunities with the Sacramento Regional Air Quality Board for Electric Vehicle charging stations at multiple district sites. Korematsu Elementary and the DJUSD Maintenance and Operations Facility would likely to be the first two sites to acquire these stations in an effort to continue with sustainability efforts within the District.

What's New with the New Preschool Site at the Korematsu Campus?

On Wednesday, February 12, the DJUSD Bond Team held two Community Meetings with staff, administration, architects, community members and neighbors to discuss the new preschool site on the Korematsu campus. General design plans and the location proposal along Loyola Drive were well received. Traffic and parking continue to be points of concern for stakeholders. DJUSD will continue to collaborate with the City of Davis to address traffic concerns around the school and to work with architects to find optimal designs for drop-off and parking. Stay updated with further preschool developments on our website.

César Chávez MPR Update

César Chávez is currently in the Design Development Phase as the District continues to collaborate with the staff and community regarding the placement of the new MPR building. We are excited for the development of all site MPRs and look forward to sharing the progression of future Bond projects with you.

Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design

DJUSD met with Chief Pytel of the Davis Police Department to discuss how school Bond projects can reflect elements of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design and how we can strengthen a working partnership with our community to reduce crime and benefit our schools. Did you know the most effective way to reduce crime at any location is through frequent usage? We are confident that the new MPRs will be top notch facilities that will see heavy usage by our students, staff, parents and our community.

Big Campus Improvements Coming for Da Vinci Charter High School

On Wednesday, February 26, 2020, DJUSD held the Community Meetings at Da Vinci High School to discuss further plans for the construction of the new multipurpose room, to include a STEM lab (CTE grant-dependent), P.E. locker rooms, and a new science lab. Additional renovations include an expanded parking lot, front office renovations and campus landscaping. General concerns from adjacent residents to the school site included inquiries regarding measures the District would take toward safety and crime prevention in the area surrounding Da Vinci High. Go to our website to follow progress on this Bond Project.

Public Outreach for Bond Projects

DJUSD is committed to building understanding and support for our Bond Program. It is important to us that our key stakeholders including students, staff, families, neighbors, local business, and others have an understanding of the details of each project, including purpose, launch, progress, decision making and completion. Our goal is to provide timely information through digital communications, public meetings and more. Please take time to read about our Communication efforts and when and how you can provide feedback and learn more information about the projects that interest you. Visit DJUSD Bond Public Outreach.

Thank You for Measure M

DJUSD Bond Program- $226 Million

Measure M funds, along with additional facility dollars, constitute the current DJUSD Bond Program that together amounts to approximately $226 million. Bond sales will occur over the course of the next four years. In February 2019, DJUSD saw the first successful bond sale that enabled our school District to begin work with the first $50 million of our Bond Program, referred to as Group 1 Bond Projects, to address safety projects, elementary multi-purpose rooms and more!

Group 1 Bond Projects

  • Bond projects include Districtwide projects such as hydration stations and school campus access improvements and site-specific projects such as new two multipurpose rooms, Emerson/Da Vinci Junior Highs science labs, and Da Vinci High campus renovations and construction.

Group 2 and Group 3 Projects

  • Groups 2 and 3 Bond projects include Willett MPR, North Davis Elementary MPR, Davis Senior High School STEM Building and Aquatics Center and other projects throughout the District.
