NES MOUNTAIN MEMO
September 11, 2020
Message from Principal Melamed
Dear Nederland Community,
Thank you to those that attended the Back to School Night question and answer Zoom meeting. I hope you found the meeting informative. And thank you to those that are continuing to email me with questions. The return to school for kindergarten through 2nd grade is an incredibly complicated situation and your questions only help us to prepare. So please keep them coming and we will do our best to answer them.
As we continue our planning and as we continue to get guidance and information from BVSD and Boulder County Public Health it is important that we keep you updated. So I will host another question and answer session next Thursday at 6:00. Please look for the Zoom information next week.
Thank you for your continued support of Nederland Elementary and please reach out with any questions.
Exploring Access to the School for Internet and Workspace
We are collaborating with BVSD to open our cafeteria to our students and adult caregivers to access the school internet and have a workspace. Children with a parent or adult caregiver will sign up for two-hour time slots. Students will be able to access the BVSD internet and adults will be able to access the BVSD guest network. Students and adults will have to complete an online health screen questionnaire prior to coming in and adhere to social distancing guidelines and wear a mask. Please look for more details in the next week. If you think you would take advantage of this workspace or if you have questions please contact Caleb at email@example.com.
Materials Pick Up - SEPTEMBER 14, 2020 - 8-10am and 2-4pm
Please remain in your cars and a staff member will come to you. If this date/time doesn't work please let us know and we can make other arrangements.

The Counselor's Corner - Kristen Kron
Hello NES families,
Students may be experiencing an increase in stress due to the transition to home learning and other factors related to the epidemic. A great resource to support your child’s emotional needs is the Digital Calm Corner website. You can also help your child create their own “Refocus Center” (this is the language we use at NES) in a quiet location in your home. For more ideas for what to include in a refocus center, please check out: How to Create the Perfect Calm-Down Corner at Home.

Social-Emotional Learning - Ann Sherman
There have been a few bumps and challenges as families have attempted to shift from a summer lifestyle into online learning and the associated use of mountain internet services. If students were inside the school building this fall, master teachers would be using social-emotional knowledge to engage reluctant and unfocused learners. At the foundation of learning is a strong, nurturing relationship and a focus on coaching emotionally dysregulated kids to self-soothe and be resilient in the face of challenges. Learn how to replicate these education practices in your own home during remote learning. Read more at: Simple Strategies to Create Sanity During Remote Learning (Part Two)
