Getting To Know Me
Welcome to Georgia Virtual School! Whether this is your first experience with GaVS or you have been around this block before, I hope that it has been a smooth start. I briefly introduced myself in my introductory email a couple of weeks ago, but wanted to do so in more depth here.
I have a B.S. degree in Chemistry and an M.Ed. in Instructional Technology. I taught chemistry, physical science, physics, and AP chemistry in a traditional classroom for seven years before quitting in 2004 to become a stay at home mom to my three children. After two years at home, I began teaching online. This is my 11th year teaching online, my eighth year with Georgia Virtual School. I went back to a face-to-face classroom this year. I teach many science courses, have been a course developer, Science Department Coordinator, and I am a Master Teacher.
My kids are now all in school fulltime. When I am not shuffling boys to sports practice, I enjoy reading, gardening, and traveling with my family.
If you need to speak with me, please feel free to either email or call. I will always respond within 24 hours Monday through Friday.
I am looking forward to a productive semester with your students. I have high expectations, and I am certain that my students will excel!

Checking Progress
Grades are updated several times a week.
Assignments due dates have been set by GaVS. This means that every other Thursday the assignments on the calendar for the previous two weeks are due. Students have until midnight to turn in the assignments without penalty.
Grades are updated, and any zeroes for work that was due that Thursday, but was not turned in, are added.
Students can submit work late, but it will be penalized per the GaVS late work policy, which states: Work is penalized 10% per school day late, for up to three school days. Work is not accepted after three school days.
Please be sure to read any feedback left to understand a grade before you email or call me. If you still have questions, feel free to contact me. Although I am very careful in my grading, I have made mistakes before!
