This course is a project-based learning MOOC in which the learners will work on a continuous project that is finalized at the end of the course. The final project is a correct, clear, effective professional email/memo in response to a prompt. Each participant will write a clear and concise email/memo relative to his or her professional endeavors that fits one of the common types of memos explained in the course and follows the guidelines for that type of memo. Common types of memos include directives, progress reports, incident reports, response to inquiries, and meeting minutes. Participants will learn about memo format, common ways to organize memo contents, common memo routing protocols, and expectations upon writers in professional environments.
This course is designed to be beneficial to all levels of learners, from those who have never heard of a memo to those who write memos every day. Everyone will learn something from this experience. In fact, different levels of learners are encouraged in this course so that we can all learn from each other. There will be thousands of learners working side-by-side on their projects, and the environment will be social, supportive, and constructive.
