The Seahawk Scoop

November 17, 2020

Dear Beach Middle Families,

I want to apologize for getting this out late. Due to the unexpected news yesterday, I wanted to ensure that I was able to include any updates. As stated in last night's AlertNow, we are all extremely disappointed at returning to Virtual, but also understand and intend to make sure we are all doing our part to keep everyone in the Virginia Beach community safe. As we did in the Spring, we will quickly pivot and make the transition as seamless as possible.

As stated in my AlertNow last week, Fall pictures are scheduled for the week of December 14th. We will keep these on the calendar for now and re-assess after we find out more information on our date of return.

Report cards will be uploaded into ParentVue today at noon. Please review with your child and reach out to teachers and your child's counselor if you have questions. It is hard to believe, but we are at the end of Term I. If your child failed a course for the semester, you will receive a letter in the mail. Students who fail a Term 1 core class will be required to re-take the course in summer school. Please take advantage of the resources we have available to help get them back on track.

I hope everyone has a great week. Do not hesitate to reach out to me if I can be of any assistance.

Virtual Schedule

Our schedule will not change in the virtual environment. As included in last week's newsletter, we did make a change effective with the new grading period. Literacy & Numeracy was moved to the end of the day for 6th and 7th grade students. Everyone operated under this schedule last week, so it will continue. Zero Bell times will also remain the same.

School Office Hours

During the time we are fully virtual, office hours will be 8:30 AM-4:30 PM. Appointments for essential matters will continue to be held during the hours of 10:00 AM-4:00 PM. We will conduct as much business as possible virtually. Thank you in advance for understanding.

8th Grade Writing SOL

As of now, we are still scheduled to administer the 8th grade Writing SOL test in early December. If you are the parent of an Option 2 8th grade student who is currently enrolled in English, you should have received an email from VBCPS regarding a survey. It is very important that this survey be completed ASAP. Please contact the school if you do not receive the survey so we can assist.

2020 Federal Card Survey

All secondary school and special center students’ federal cards will be mailed home to parents after the Nov. 13 survey date. Federal card packets will include a federal card, a letter to parents, and a postage-paid return mail envelope. Return envelopes will be pre-addressed to be mailed to each child’s school. Due to anticipated delays in mail service, additional time has been allotted for the return mailing of federal cards. Parents are asked to mail completed and signed federal cards to home schools no later than Monday, Nov. 30.
