Student Art Work Featured in Panoply
The HGHS students listed below will have their art work on display this week-end at Panoply. Panoply is Huntsville’s premier outdoor arts festival and will be held in Big Spring Park from April 25-27, 2014. The festival has an admission fee of $10 per day at the gate ($7.50 if you pre-order online). Children 12 and under are admitted FREE!

The Student Art Tent is located on the North side of the Huntsville Museum of Art near the red bridge and lighthouse, and will be open Friday (5pm-9pm), Saturday (10am-9pm) and Sunday (12pm-7pm). The schools are organized randomly in the student art tent but each art display stand will be labeled with a school sign. The Trojans will play the second round of playoff on Friday at 4:00 & 7:00 vs. Sparkman. There will be a Saturday game at 3:00, if necessary. Hazel Green Prom is also Friday, so we hope to see a big turn-out from the community. Let's make sure the boys have a HUGE home crowd!

Boys and Girls Soccer both advance in the playoffs! The boys take on Florence on Saturday in Florence at 3:00 PM. The girls will play Austin at Jack Allen Soccer Complex in Decatur at 5:00 PM. Bring home the wins!
Golf
The Boys Varsity Golf Team shot their lowest score this season on Monday at Goose Pond in the Scottsboro Invitational with a 306. The low round for the Trojans goes to Tyler Long, who shot a 1 over 73, followed by Alan Anderson with a 74. Chase Pinder scored his season best with a 78, while David Anderson finished with a 81. The Trojans finished a strong 6th place out of 19 teams which will give them confidence going into Sectionals on Tuesday in Gadsden.

Graduation Speech Auditions - Anyone interested in speaking at graduation, Auditions will be held on April 30, in Mrs. Brady’s room. Speeches should be memorized and no longer than 4-5 minutes. Speakers must be in good standing with the school and must be cleared by the office if selected.

Cap and Gown Pictures - Bill Miller Photography picked up the senior cap and gown proofs last week. As soon as the pictures arrive, we will get them out to the students.

The revision to next year’s calendar consists of four half-days for professional development (coded in purple). Please note the dates. Also, notice we will be out for President’s Day next year.
Summer Expo and Freshman Night - The following are the dates for your child to pick up his or her class schedule, parking space ($20), and lockers ($6) for the 2014-2015 school year:
- July 29 Expo Day—New Gym: 12th grade - 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., 11th grade - 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., 10th grade - 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
- July 31 Freshman Night 6:00 p.m. in New Gym
- Freshman Night will include a short assembly for parents and students orientation and organization purposes. Schedule pick up and locker purchases will be available immediately following. These dates are not required. However, if your child cannot come on his or her assigned grade level date, then these items will be available the first day of school which is August 5th.
- Students that have debts from the prior year will not be allowed to participate in these days until they are cleared.
The Annual Hazel Green Football Golf Tournament is Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Colonial Golf Course. It will be a Shotgun Start at 1:30pm with a 4-Man Scramble. It's not too late to register! Deadline to enter is May 1, 2014. The first 30 teams to sign up with payment will be accepte. Cost is $80 per player /$320 per Team. Fee includes 18 holes of Golf with Cart (1 mulligan per player included), Hit the Green, Par 3 Contest, Longest Drive Entry Closest to the Pin, Entries Appreciation Goodie Bag, Door Prizes, Lunch and Dessert. 4th Annual Trojan Youth Football Camp is June 17-19 from 1:00-3:30. The camp is open to kindergarten through 8th grade and is $25 per child. The Hazel Green Varsity Staff, along with former and current college players will be giving personalized instructions on position specific football, lifting and speed techniques. We focus on the fundamentals! All positions are welcome and instructed. Email twray@madison.k12.al.us for registration form.
Mrs, Braudaway is sponsoring a Hazel Green Dance Team that will perform at all Varsity Boys basketball games. Tryouts will be May 8-9 from 3:30 until 5:00 in the “Old Gym” at Hazel Green High School. Thursday May 8 will be a clinic to learn the tryout routine. Friday May 9 “Across the floor demonstrations of skills will be done”, along with the tryouts. Any Sophomore or Junior that would like to apply for Trojan Ambassador for the upcoming school year can pick up applications from Mrs. Helton in the Attendance Office or Mrs. Bell in room N219. Applications are due no later than 3:00pm on April 29th. Late applications will NOT be accepted!
Basketball Cheerleading tryouts will be May 12-16 from 3:30-5:00pm in the cafeteria. All completed documents must be turned in the first day of tryouts. Visit the basketball cheer website for more information.

If you are interested in being on the 2014-15 Yearbook staff pick up an application from Mrs. Brady. Applications for yearbook staff are due to Mrs. Brady by Wednesday, April 30. You may also give your application to a staff member.
Bill Miller will be here June 17, 18, 19, and 20 to take senior portraits. He will return on Expo Day (July 29) for those who cannot attend on those dates. In order to be in the yearbook you must have your portrait taken by Bill Miller Photography.
The Madison County School System will run double bus routes beginning with the 2014-2015 school year. Hazel Green High and Meridianville Middle will begin school at 8:30 and end at 3:30 each day. All elementary and intermediate schools will begin at 7:45 and end at 2:30 each day. Parents will be allowed to drop students off thirty (30) minutes prior to the beginning of school.

The James Worth Bagley College of Engineering at Mississippi State University will host QUEST from July 6-25 for rising seniors. Students will work side-by-side with engineering faculty members on exciting research projects in an area that closely matches their academic interests. Students must have a minimum ACT score of 28 to apply for the QUEST Program. Applications Due by May 15
· Experience life on a college campus,
· Attend special seminars designed to improve their life and academic skills,
· Go on tours of industrial and academic facilities,
· Gain a better understanding of what engineers do,
· Be provided with free on-campus housing,
· Be provided with a free meal card for University dining facilities.

The Madison County Distracted Driving Program is a FREE one-day course (8:00am-3:00pm) on traffic stop etiquette, DUI laws, seat belt laws, cell phone usage, texting while driving and distracted driving. Space is limited to 30 students. Participants must possess a valid Alabama Driver's Permit. Part of the course is in a classroom setting, and the other part gives the students driving experience. Adventures at AMCOM (A@A) 2014 - A@A is a developmental opportunity for rising 9th -12th graders that will expose students to engineering, logistics, business, technical, and acquisition missions on Redstone Arsenal. Calhoun Community College is pleased to invite seniors from Madison County Schools to visit the Huntsville campus on April 24th, 2014, from 8:30AM-12:00 PM.
Agenda topics will include admissions procedures (with an opportunity to apply to college if you haven’t yet), FAFSA and financial aid, choosing a major, placement test information, and more. All seniors are welcome! The event will be most beneficial, however, to students who are undecided or unsure about some aspect of the college process. Thanks to a generous donation from Redstone Federal Credit Union,lunch will be provided for the students and school chaperones. Inspire and Achieve is looking for student volunteers for the Gazebo Stage at Panoply. There are 30 minute shifts for set-up/ clean-up and 2-3 hour volunteer shifts. Huntsville Hospital Athlete of the Week – Recognition for students who not only excel as athletes but also excel in the classroom and in the community. Procedure for Riding the Bus with a Friend - Any student who plans to ride home on a bus with a friend or to another address should follow the procedures below. No student will be allowed to ride to a different address without verification of parent/guardian approval by a school official.
1. A parent/guardian note should be turned in before first block to the receptionist desk at the back of school. The note should contain the address and information for the bus driver and should include the date and a correct phone number for verification purposes.
2. Pick up the verified note from the receptionist during lunch.
3. Give the note to the bus driver when entering the bus at the end of the school day.
Juniors Have Free Access to ACT Online Prep - All juniors received a personal user name and password to the ACT Online Prep website. This is a great resource to be used in preparing for the ACT Plus Writing assessment which will be given to all of our juniors students on April 23 during school. First Priority/FCS meets every Tuesday morning at 7: 20 in the Choir Room. All students are welcome to attend.

Recycle: Going green at “the Green”. The Hazel Green High School Special Education Department needs your old cell phones and ink cartridges. Items to be recycled can be given to a Special Education teacher or left for collection at the office. Your support of our recycling fundraiser is greatly appreciated.
Reward Cards: Parents/Students/Employees, please remember to use your reward cards when you visit Publix and Hazel Green Pharmacy. Every time you have them swipe your card, HGHS will receive a portion of the sale. If you need a reward card, just stop by the main office to pick one up.

Driver’s permit: Students /Parents, remember to pick up the Student Enrollment Form before you go to get your permit. The driver’s license department will not allow you to take the test unless you have this form and it cannot be faxed after you get there. These forms are good for 10 days only.
