Hawthorne Happenings

January 2021

Happy New Year!

We hope our Hawthorne families were able to have a restful and happy Winter Break! We are excited to welcome back our Bulldogs and start another great semester of learning!

As a reminder, if we were to have an inclement weather day this school year, we will be implementing the district's AMI (Alternate Methods of Instruction) plan, and students will continue their learning that day virtually. Please see the district's communication here for more details.

Also, our students will be going outside for recess for a full 30 minute recess when the wind chill and/or temperature are above freezing. Students will be going outside for at least a fifteen minute recess when the wind chill and/or temperature is above 20 degrees. That being said, please make sure students are coming to school with coats, gloves and hats. If you are in need of assistance with those winter items, please call the school so we can get you those resources.

Car Rider Tags

Please remember that adults picking up students in the car rider line MUST have a school-issued yellow car rider tag. If you do not have a tag, you will need to park and come in to the building with identification. If you need extras, please call the office. This is a safety measure for both your student and our staff. We are happy to print more for you!

New Sensory Path

Our building got an upgrade over Winter Break with a brand new sensory path for our students! Over the next few weeks Mrs. Waggoner will be working with our students and teachers to learn how to best utilize this great new resource!

Bulldog of the Week

Starting third quarter we will begin to recognize students who are following building-wide expectations in areas such as the hallway, lunch and playground. Our Bulldogs of the Week will be announced each Friday over the intercom. We can't wait to celebrate our Bulldogs!

Mask Guidelines

Please make sure you are aware of the district's updated mask guidelines. You can read the communication from the district here.

It will be especially helpful in the winter with runny noses if students come to school with extra masks in case their mask gets dirty. In addition, please make sure students' masks are getting washed regularly.

Important January Dates

January 5: School Resumes

January 18: No School - MLK Day

Charge Those Books!

We are seeing quite a few students arrive to school without their Chromebooks charged for the day. Please help remind your student to plug in their Chromebook overnight before school. A fully-charged Chromebook should last students throughout their school day!

Calling All Hawthorne Virtual Learners!

Please send pictures of your students learning through KSD Connect to Ms. Malone. We would love to highlight all of the amazing things your students are doing this school year!
