COVID Test Kits
The Emergency Management Director from the Town of Portsmouth has given COVID personal test kits and Informational sheets to distribute to each of our students.
We will plan to send these kits, along with an informational letter, home with students in their backpacks on Tuesday, January 25th. If you would prefer that we DO NOT send home a kit with your child, then please email our Front Office: Wendy Toppa, toppaw@portsmouthschoolsri.org by Monday, January 24th. You do not need to email us if we can send it home with your child as planned.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT COVID TESTING ON AQUIDNECK ISLAND
The state COVID-19 testing site at the Knights of Columbus will permanently close on Sunday as the operation moves to a larger location — the former Benny's store at 1400 West Main Road.
Per RIDOH, there will be 1,000 appointments per day for the general public and k-12. Both rapid and PCR testing will be available. Appointments are available now at portal.ri.gov or by calling 401-222-8022.
The site will be open from 8 AM-6 PM, seven days per week. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are accepted.
Blankets Of Hope
Thank you for all of your donations so far! We have raised $867.00! This is 123 blankets!
Students and staff at Hathaway School are participating in an amazing nationwide initiative to spread kindness called Blankets of Hope.
The organization offers a fun and educational Kindness Workshop that will empower our students to make a meaningful impact for those in need in our local community. Our hope is to donate 419 Blankets of Hope to those in need right here on Aquidneck Island.
Our school needs to fundraise $3,024.00 by to cover the cost of the blankets we’ll be donating. ($6 per student).
If you have the means and would like to help, please consider making a donation to ensure every student is able to participate!
Here’s the link to donate: https://gofund.me/bfd6f4ff
(100% of all donations will go directly to providing blankets to those in need!)
Thank you so much for your consideration - stay tuned for updates!

Hathaway Food Pantry
A great big thank you to our Hathaway community for supporting our annual Feinstein Food Drive! It was a great success and our students loved being a part of this community service project. We collected 691 items! Mr. Feinstein is generously donating one dollar per item to our Hathaway School!
In keeping with the spirit of giving, our Feinstein Jr. Scholars are excited to start an in-school food pantry that our students and families can donate to and access when needed.
Please help us as we continue to support our community by sending in food items with your child from time to time. Please email
Mrs. Almeida: almeida@portsmouthschoolsri.org or
Mrs. Pascoe: pascoen@portsmouthschoolsri.org
if you would like to access our food pantry during the school year.

HPTA Meeting
Join us at our next meeting on Wednesday, February 16, at 6:00pm.
Saturday, April 2nd Hathaway’s 9th Annual Springabaloo
Save the date for our upcoming Springabaloo at Glen Manor. The Springabaloo has historically been our largest fundraiser of the year. It is a live and silent auction held for adults only at the Glen Manor House in Portsmouth. The auction includes not only standard goods and services, but also unique items up for bid which are very popular. Our most popular items are the class projects that each classroom creates with every student contributing or the staff/teacher services where your student can do a fun activity with a teacher/staff such as “Principal for the day” with Mrs. Little! Other popular items have included gift cards for local businesses and experience, private chef dinners, camp memberships, art work, tickets to upcoming events, etc.
Ways you can help:
Join the Springabaloo committee and help procure auction items and plan the auction.
Have a local business? Donate an item or service using this form.
Sign up to volunteer the night of the event when the sign up comes out!

Snow Day Information
Teachers will email a link to the class for a live morning attendance meeting that will take place between 8:30-9:00. All students are expected to attend. During this meeting the expectations for the day will be reviewed.
If at any time during the day support is needed, then email the appropriate teacher and they will respond to your questions throughout the day.
There will be a live afternoon meeting for students to get additional support if needed. This is an optional meeting and if your child does not attend, then this will not impact attendance.
If for any reason your internet is down, then we will provide the assignments to your child when they return to school in person or your internet is back on. In this scenario, we will address any individual attendance concerns.
If you get a chance to go outside post some fun to our Facebook and/or Twitter page!
Securly Home
Securly Home is an app that allows parents to monitor their child’s Chromebook activity at home and add rules for home use. Please take some time to review the slideshow and recording of the parent meeting that took place on 9/16.
We encourage you to sign up now for Securly Home!
Hathaway Notification Form
Please complete the Hathaway Notification Form.
Thank you in advance for helping us to keep things organized and safe in our Hathaway community.
Asynchronous Learning
Students who need to quarantine will be provided with asynchronous distance learning. All teachers are prepared to have daily assignments and accompanying materials available for students on a regular basis. If an entire class is asked to quarantine, synchronous learning will be available to the entire class. Materials pick up may be scheduled.
Teachers will be sharing login procedures with students and families. It is important that your child is familiar with Google Classroom and how to access the necessary lessons. This will make for an easy transition if your child is asked to quarantine.
Reminders
Lunch Orders: Please remind your child that we need to order lunch for the next day. While we understand that sometimes it is a necessity to order on the day of, we ask that you review lunch choices so students are prepared to order one day ahead. Presently Chartwells is short staffed. Your understanding and cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Recess, Mask Breaks, and Outdoor Learning: With the colder weather approaching, we ask that students come to school with appropriate outdoor weather attire. We go out for recess, continue with our outdoor mask breaks, and head outside for learning as much as possible!
Pick Up: Pick up begins at 3:15. Be sure to have your placard visible. Please pull over to the side of Tallman Avenue to buckle up - this will help keep the line moving. If someone other than a parent is picking up, please let the main office know. Pick up ends at 3:30.
Thank you for your support in helping to make drop off and pick up run safely and efficiently.
Accessing Aspen
If you are having issues accessing Aspen, you will have to email familyportal@portsmouthschoolsri.org with your child's name, date of birth, grade level, and your name. The system administrators will be able to restore access to your account and make sure that you can login.
