Being Thankful
I saw a student recently at Safeway. He had moved away a few years ago but told me he always wanted to move back to Seward. He would come to see me at the nurse’s office and we’d talk usually for a very long time. He had problems at home and at school. The young man standing before me now has a job and feels like he is doing well. It is always affirming to know a student that has faced challenges at home and school can be resilient in his future. A blossoming thought occurred while I was talking to this young man and I knew then that it is the connection with students that I have missed most this school year. We all have definitely lost many things this year. Ultimately, it has brought to the forefront what is truly important in my work and that is the connections I have made with students and staff.
COOPER LANDING SCHOOL
Out of an abundance of caution, Cooper Landing School has been moved to yellow status (medium risk). This means that all students and staff must wear a face covering at all times except for PE and recess. We have provided each student with a face shield. They can either wear the face shield or their cloth masks. Today they all wanted to wear the face shields and did very well with them. Thanks to all who have been diligent in sending cloth masks and please continue to do so.
The yellow level also means no home-baked goods may be brought to school for birthday celebrations. They must be store-bought.
The KPBSD School Board is meeting this evening and we will promptly communicate any COVID information/decisions that affect us. Thank you all for your patience and understanding!
There will be a PAC meeting next Thursday, December 17th via Zoom. The time has not yet been determined. Please send any agenda items to dtucker@kpbsd.org.
During the week of December 7, grades 3-5 will be participating in a weeklong virtual program about Planetary Exploration. This program reinforces STEM concepts and is presented by the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska.
Denali Park Dinosaurs
On December 9, students in Grades K-2 will be participating in Denali Distance Learning's presentation of Denali Park Dinosaurs. During this Distance Learning program, students travel back in time with a ranger to learn about how the predator-prey interactions of Denali’s dinosaurs mirror those of wild animals in Denali today.
A virtual Christmas Play is in the works. Please stay tuned for more information.
Please make sure your child brings a filled water bottle to school each day and brings it home at the end of the day. We are happy to refill it during the day if needed. We appreciate it!

A few key points:
1. Students and staff must wear masks at all times. The only exceptions are lunch, PE and recess.
2. No visitors will be allowed at any time for any reason (this includes parents at lunch or recess time). You may still come pick up your child as we have been doing all year.
3. All meetings from this point forward will take place virtually.
4. Strict 6 foot social distancing must take place whenever possible.
School lunches must be ordered by noon on Friday for the following week. You must fill out one form per child and will need your child(ren)'s student ID number.
