7th Grade

The 7th graders read excerpts of Jerry Spinelli's Knots in My Yo-Yo String to identify elements of memoir. As we read Spinelli, we examine his word choice, voice, and craft in writing with the aim to imagine our own memoirs. Students brought in special objects to share, with the intention of perhaps using them as a springboard to write a memoir. Students began drafting their memoirs and will soon read books from this genre in book clubs. Students also began journaling and writing book reviews of their independent books. Finally, students continue their root word studies and grammar.
