Christ the King Sunday
November 19, 2015 ~ 33rd Week of Ordinary Time
Greetings Everyone!
THIS Sunday, 11/22, we will celebrate the Solemnity of Christ the King TONIGHT at our 7:00PM Mass in Linehan Chapel.
The Feast of Christ the King is a newer addition to our liturgical calendar. Pope Pius XI added this feast in 1925. At the time the world was in between two world wars, starting to see the rise of communism and the development of a world economy.
The addition of the feast of Christ the King was advocated by Franciscans (a religious community started to help the poorest of the poor by St. Francis of Assisi). They hoped that such a feast would remind Christians of their call to live as Christ taught us - by finding strength through service and peace making. Placed at the end of our liturgical year, this feast invites us to look back and reflect on the stories and lessons we heard in the scripture readings throughout the year.
As our liturgical year comes to an end, ask yourself: “how am I being called to use my gifts and talents to help build the Kingdom of God here on Earth?
Peace,

Nazareth CollegeAn Urgent Message from the Jesuit Refugee Service/USA:
We Must Welcome Refugees:
In the United States, many governors have announced their opposition to the resettlement of Syrian refugees in their state and some members of Congress are threatening a government shutdown if the U.S. moves forward with plans to resettle 10,000 Syrian refugees.
One of the proudest traditions of the United States has been to welcome the stranger. Through the U.S. resettlement program, we have provided a safe harbor to those fleeing violence and oppression, and an opportunity to make a new life in a country that does not just tolerate, but embraces, diversity.
“It is very important to realize that people who are coming to Europe right now—Syrians and others who are coming through—have left barrel bombs in Aleppo; they have left random attacks in Damascus, in Iraq, in other parts of the world,” says Fr. Tom Smolich, Director of Jesuit Refugee Service International.
We need your help as we call on policymakers in the U.S. to address the root causes of the Syrian conflict through robust political and diplomatic efforts across the region; continue to provide humanitarian aid, including food, shelter and access to an education; and welcome refugees, the most thoroughly vetted, and vulnerable, individuals arriving on U.S. shores.
Please send a letter to your policymakers and follow-up with a phone call. It is important that they hear from you today!"
