Happy Holidays
Thanks to our students and families for making adjustments, following our recommendations and adapting so well to our new normal. Your support has been very much appreciated.
A special thanks to the staff of MPS. It's time to down tools and take some much needed respite from work. Allow yourselves the opportunity to relax, recharge and refresh over the next couple of weeks so we are prepared for whatever comes our way in Semester 2!
Congrats to our entire MPS community, what a team!
Stay safe,
Mrs Van Egmond
Attendance at school
Arriving at school and class on time:
• Ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day
• Helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine
• Give students time to greet their friends before class
• Reduces classroom disruption
On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school. Justified reasons for student absences may include:
• being sick, or having an infectious disease
• having an unavoidable medical appointment
• being required to attend a recognised religious holiday
• exceptional or urgent family circumstance (e.g. attending a
funeral)
Following an absence from school you must ensure that within 7 days you provide your child’s school with a verbal or written explanation for the absence.
SMS Process
At MPS we utilise an SMS system to communicate with you when students are absent from school. If you send a response to the SMS, our system will be updated by the details we receive from you. If you know that your child will be absent for more than one day, please advise of this in your response. If we are not informed about dates, you will continue to receive an SMS each day your child is absent from school.
Occasionally an SMS may be received even though you have advised us about your child's absence. Apologies for any inconvenience however, sometimes mistakes happen. We appreciate you continuing to work with us to support our students.

Positive Behavour For Learning (PBL)
This week in PBL lessons we will be looking at the NSW Department of Education behaviour code for students. Maryland Public School is committed to providing safe, supportive and responsive learning environments for everyone. We teach and model the behaviours we value in our students. Parents and carers can assist at home by having a discussion with your child this week about safety, respect and engagement expectations.
Kindergarten 2021
We are currently taking names for Kindergarten 2021.
Your child can start Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year if they turn five on or before 31 July in that year. By law, all children must be enrolled in school by their sixth birthday.
If you have a child starting Kindergarten in 2021 (or know somebody else who has) and have not already made enquiries about enrolment, please phone the office to collect enrolment forms.
Parent Contact Details
A reminder to parents to please email the school (Maryland-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au) if you change your contact details eg address, phone number or email address.
