Our Mission:
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
We continue to work hard every week. I am pleased to announce that the 3-5 graders have completed their M-Step testing. Our students are preparing for end of the year activities and assessments. This is the time of year that you can see the light at the end of the tunnel but we are not there yet. Keep encouraging your child to do their very best every single day. Please be sure to join us next week for Red White and Blue day
Sincerely,
Dr. Jason Parrott

FIELD DAY - WEDNESDAY, JUNE 1ST
MR. LEWIS ASKS THAT ALL THOSE WHO VOLUNTEERED FOR FIELD DAY REPORT TO THE GYM AT 12:30 P.M. FIELD DAY WILL BEGIN AT 1:00 P.M. THANK YOU.
CALENDAR FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR
2016-2017 Calendar: A calendar for the 2016-2017 school year is now available! You can view an outline of the complete calendar by clicking here. Building and program specific calendars, as well as a complete calendar for our current school year, are all available from the calendar page of our district website.
Please begin making your vacation plans accordingly. We understand the value of family time, and family vacations, but when you plan your trips during school days, your child misses valuable learning opportunities, workshop experiences, teacher-directed instruction, and valuable hands-on opportunities that cannot be made up.
We are also moving to Google Calendar. If you click on the calendar you have two options under Oak Ridge: OR Building and OR Facility.
OR Building would be all the times of events that are for our school. Most parents will use this calendar. If you rent the facilities (Ex: Boy Scout, Girl Scout, Basketball, etc.) you will want to check the OR Facility Calendar. This would be set up times for events and outside rentals.
Rentals still follow the same procedure. You will use a building permit. Please make sure your date and time are available on both calendars. It is possible that someone has submitted a permit and it is not on the calendar. If that happens you will be notified. Always make sure your events have been placed on the calendar for rentals. If not, contact Robin Newsome (newsomer@royaloakschools.org) PRIOR to the event. Please submit the permits well in advance of the event. The permits are turned in at the building and we send them to Mrs. Newsome
Playground After School Hours
At Oak Ridge, we enjoy giving our parents and students access to the playground after school. It is great time for the parents and students to interact and it promotes a sense of community. However, it is important to understand that all normal school rules apply on the playground. It is also important to understand that the supervision of children on the playground is the sole responsibility of their parents. Recently, we have had many students engaged in rough play that has caused injury. This is a trend that can not continue . Please review the playground procedures to help ensure the safety of all of our students: http://www.royaloakschools.org/downloads/enrollment/2015-2016_or_bts_handbook_20150923_100012_1.pdf.
ANNUAL RED, WHITE, BLUE DAY OBSERVANCE
On Friday, May 27 at 1:30 in the afternoon the Oak Ridge students and staff will be celebrating Memorial Day on the front lawn of our school.
We would like to invite all veterans and all military personnel currently serving to join us. It gives our students an opportunity to acknowledge our service men and women. If you or a loved one who has served or is currently serving will be able to attend please call the school office(248.588.8353) with the name, branch of service, and years served. We will acknowledge those in attendance and will have special seating for them. Thank you.

It is never too early to start thinking about summer. Check out the link below for information: http://www.royaloakschools.org/downloads/_news_/summer_sports_camp_brochure_16_1.pdf
2016-2017 Enrollment:
We are already beginning to plan for next year and need your help. If you have an incoming kindergartner that will be joining us in 2016-2017, please let us know. Also, if you are not attending Oak RIdge for any reason (i.e move, transfer, etc.) Please notify the main office. We will have a half sheet of paper coming home after break asking you for this information. Please make sure you complete it and return it. Thank you for helping us to better plan for next year.
Free and Reduced Price Meal Applications:
It is possible to apply for participation in the Free and Reduced Price Meals program at any time during the school year. Often, family situations change during the course of a school year, and new needs develop. As circumstances change (number of family members, change in income, etc.) families are able to re-apply or apply for the first time at any time during a school year. For information about the criteria to qualify for free or reduced price meals as well as how to apply, visit the Food Services Department webpage. You can access the page from our district homepage,www.royaloakschools.org, by clicking on Districts, then Departments. Or you can click here to be taken directly to the page. Personnel in the Food Service Department or your child’s school can assist you with the application process as needed.
Food Service Accounts:
By using parent portal, families are able to view the transactions in their children’s food service accounts. You can see deposits, purchases, and the balance available in the account. If you need assistance logging into parent portal, you can contact the secretary in your child’s school or Ms. Angela Smith (smitha2@royaloakschools.org or 435-8400, ext. 1216). If you have questions about the transactions you review in parent portal, after checking with your child to be sure they did not make a purchase about which they forgot to inform you (My kids do it to me:), contact Ms. Kim Stoid in our food services department at 435-8500, ext. 1123. She will be able to assist you.
