Grade's are In
Manning Parents and Community-
Mid-Term grades are posted, and you can see them on Parent Portal. To clarify, grades this year will be as they were prior to COVID. We are back on a traditional semester schedule and mid-term grades are fluid, with a running grade which shows your students grade at the mid-point of the semester. Students will not start 'fresh' as they did during our COVID year at quarter. Please contact your student's counselor or Ms. Yocum for any further questions or concerns.

Manning Student Community Event
The orizuru, or paper crane, is a design that is considered to be the most classic of all Japanese origami. There is a story of a young Japanese girl named Sadako who while ill heard of the legend of 1000 paper crane. The legend says that if you can fold 1000 cranes the Great Crane will grant you a wish. While Sadako’s original wish was for her own health, that wish shifted to a global one of healing and peace. The paper crane today is a symbol of peace, love hope and healing during a challenging time.
The last 19 months have obviously been a challenging time for all. Several students at Manning with the help of Ms. Cahill (and others) would like to attempt to make 1000 paper cranes that we can display around the building in November as an outward sign of our students communities ongoing healing during this school year.
On Friday October 29 from 2:10 – 3:25 in room N101 (Cahill) any student interested in being a part of this group is welcome to stay during achievement and fold origami cranes. NO EXPERIENCE NECCESARY we have several students willing to teach other students how!
Join us and help make this a reality for our students.
"Speed dating with books?"
Manning paired up with the Jeffco Public library (JCPL) to do "speed dating with a book".
What was the outcome?!? WOW! Our students sure love books. We had over 750 books checked out to 7th and 8th grade students in four days. JCPL said it was the most successful event they ever had.
Looking forward to later this semester when 6th graders get their turn.
Social Emotional Learning, SEL Corner
October is ADHD and Dyslexia Awareness Month. ADHD and Dyslexia often show up together.
While ADHD may have some common features it also presents differently in different people. Challenges with sustained attention and or hyperactivity and occur in two or more settings are key features of ADHD. Clinicians must rule out alternatives to be sure, for instance, people with trauma experiences can present as though they have ADHD.
A person might suffer from shortened attention without having ADHD. We train our brains daily. Allowing your brain to jump from topic to topic or video to video and the endless social media scrolling, multitasking, and the countless demands of daily life can make it challenging for our brains to know what is most important at any given moment. This research article highlights the challenges in identifying how technology interacts, reinforces, or interferes with various types of attention (e.g. working memory vs sustained attention) (Lodge & Harrison, 2019).
Sources of Strength:
Sources of Strength will resume at Manning in November. Sources of Strength is an upstream suicide prevention program designed to build on the strengths within each of us. As an upstream program, it not only provides suicide prevention but could also be preventative to all sorts of negative outcomes. This is because students will learn and experience what it is to care for themselves and others. We will do this both within the club and through school wide campaigns.
