Tumuaki Message

Kia ora Parents and Whānau,

We have had a great start to Term Three. Thank you for ensuring that your learners follow the school uniform expectations and are at school by 8.30am each morning.

Over the next three weeks, we are linking with our local contributing schools focusing on Successful Transition to Intermediate School. Kate Watson and the school leaders will visit each school, presenting to the Year 6 group. The Senior Leadership Team will also visit all Y6 classes and meet with the teachers. This will culminate in a Year 7 2022 Information Evening followed by two Open Morning sessions during the week of 9th to 13th August.

On Wednesday 4th August all TNIS learners will have the opportunity to talk about their learning at Learning Conversations. We are looking forward to seeing you during this time.

How We Express Ourselves

Our How We Express Ourselves unit is in full swing, will learners across the team looking at all of the different ways that messages are conveyed using The Arts. All teams have gone in a slightly different direction, exploring one 'Line of Inquiry' that is unique to their own team. This means that every area of the school will be presenting something a bit different, and links in with what the learners in that team are interested in. We are looking forward to seeing the creative summative tasks that emerge in the next two weeks!

We are in the process of planning our next unit of inquiry, Sharing the Planet. Alex Reynolds and Kevin Elmes are currently meeting with a range of learners from across the school to unpack what the theme means to them and give them agency over their learning. Sharing the Planet will fit in with the concept of 'Sustainability', which has been explored through the Specialisation areas. Learners will be given the opportunity to make connections between their Specialist classes and what is happening in the classroom.

Learner Led Conversations - Wednesday 4 August

On Wednesday 4 August, you will have the opportunity to participate in a conversation led by your child about their learning. These learner-led conversations will be held between 3.30 pm and 7.30 pm. You will be able to select a 30-minute time block that best suits you. There may be up to five learners having their conversations in the classroom at the same time.

To book your 30-minute time slot online, please log on to the following website: www.schoolinterviews.co.nz and use the School Code : ehpww

Follow the instructions on this website to select your child’s room number and teacher and the time slot you wish to book. An email will be sent to you confirming the time. If you do not have internet access please phone the School Office (489-3940) and we will be able to book a time for you.

Learner-Led Conversations focus on the philosophy that reflection is an important and constructive part of the learning process. This opportunity gives the learner an active and meaningful role in reviewing and reflecting on his/her own learning. Self-respect and self-esteem are enhanced as learners are asked to focus on strengths and to give their perspective on their next learning steps. The teacher plays a key role prior to this day by offering ongoing support; making it possible for the learner to move into a leadership role where they articulate their learning.

Before or after your classroom time slot, you and your child are invited to visit the Specialist rooms: Food Technology, Science, Materials Technology, Digital Media, Music/Dance and Visual Art. The ESOL Room will also be open for those learners who attend these support programmes. This is an opportunity for your child to talk about their learning in these classrooms too We look forward to your support on this special occasion.

Guitar Lessons starting Term 3 - Dave Gatman

Hi there! I have taught Guitar to kids in schools for over 15 years. I love working with kids and inspiring the next generation of musicians. I like to make my lessons as positive and fun as possible, teaching a range of songs from traditional folk/blues to the current pop and rock tunes.

I've played the guitar in a large variety of settings, and I'm currently in a covers band playing at weddings, bars and parties.

Lessons are in groups of up to 4 at a time, and cost $20.00 plus gst, for half an hour.

Individual lessons are offered if I feel like the student will benefit from them, and if I have space. These cost $35.00 plus GST per half hour.

Lessons are on Wednesday mornings at TNIS as well.

Feel free to contact me - dave.gatman@musiqhub.co.nz. Or text/call on 021 2221456.

Thanks,

Dave
