Principal's Message

Dear Hallinan Families,

April is RESPONSIBILITY month. We define responsibility as taking action and understanding how our choices affect others, ourselves and the world. In our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons, Counselor, Ms Erspamer, will encourage responsible decision-making with others, while at school and online. If you would like to continue the lessons at home, visit Ms E's Counseling Corner for ideas.

And, today, if case you missed it, today is a busy day at Hallinan. It's the last day to order books online at the Book Fair; it's the last day to order Card Art online; and, it's the Hallinan MOD Pizza Fundraiser! Thanks to our wonderful PTO, we appreciate you! Please see the PTO section below for more details about the Book Fair, Cart Art and MOD Pizza Fundraiser.

It's a good night for pizza!

Melissa Griffiths

Music with Mr Haynor!

Mr. Haynor and the 2nd grade classes are excited to share their performances of Tikki Tikki Tembo with Hallinan! To limit interactions in the music room they decided to videotape the performances instead of doing them live. Watch as two young brothers find themselves in trouble when they don't heed the advice of their mother!

Book Fair Wrap - Last day to order online today - Order Here! Thanks to everyone who visited, volunteered at and supported this year's book fair! It was a huge success and wonderful to see the students so excited! Book fair sales were over $13k and 25% of total proceeds will go back to Hallinan and support our library. In addition, the school raised over $450 in All for Books donations, of which 100% will benefit Hallinan. A very special thank you to our dedicated librarian, Mrs. Landau, and the many parent volunteers who's hard work made it possible.

Our collection bins will be out starting Tuesday, April 19 and will be there until Wednesday May 3. You will receive information from your teacher about what we are collecting and opportunities for your child to participate in activities related to the food drive soon.

Volunteer Requirements

We're so excited to have volunteers back in the building! Please verify that you have completed the following requirements before volunteering in schools:

  • Complete Background Check through school Raptor system - if you have not already completed this, bring your driver's license or passport with you on your first day volunteering and we'll get you registered in the office.

  • Fill out this form: Sign Statement of Knowledge and Understanding of LOSD Policies - we are happy to provide additional information if you would like it.

  • Show/Send Proof of Vaccination to Lee Gates (gatesl@loswego.k12.or.us). LOSD will not be granting exemptions for volunteers.

OSAS Schedule and Reminders

Oregon State Assessment will take place in April and May, refer to the Save the Date section above and chart below for details. Teachers will also be sending out information in their newsletters.

Prepare your student for testing by ensuring:

  • They are well rested
  • Have healthy breakfast, lunch and snack options
  • CHARGED chromebook
  • Encouragement - we believe in them!

If a student has a smartphone or watch, these will need to be kept in backpacks during testing as access to them creates an impropriety, per state assessment regulations.

Big picture

Oregon State Assessment Opt-Out Form

Every year, Oregon students take assessments to meet federal requirements. The purpose of these assessments is to provide data that schools can use to ensure each and every child is on track and achieving learning goals.

State law requires us to inform you that a form is available from the State Department of Education that allows you to opt your child out of the math and English Language Arts assessments for the current school year. Should you wish to opt out your child, fill out the form and submit it to the main office at your child’s school. Please note the submission deadlines listed on the form. Meeting the deadline will help the school with planning and preparation. If you wish your child not to participate in the science assessment for grades 5, 8, and 11, submit this request in writing to the principal of your child's school.

If you have questions or want more information about state assessments, please contact your child’s principal or teacher(s).

2022-23 Registration

Registration for the 2022-23 school year (all grade levels) is open! This is for new students who have never enrolled in Lake Oswego before and for returning students who are not currently enrolled but will re-enroll for next year. Registration is online through ParentVUE. Parents do not need to register students for 2022-23 who are currently attending during the 2021- 22 school year. Information about registration, including Spanish Immersion, can be found here.

Families of students who will be entering kindergarten in the fall of 2022 can find information about Kindergarten, including how to register, on the Hallinan Kinder Counts pre-recorded video on the Hallinan website. The lottery registration deadline is Friday, 4/29. If Hallinan has more age-eligible registered kindergarten students than capacity, the District will conduct a lottery. Additional information can be found here.
