Art
Kindergarten- We are working on a mixed media fall project using foil to create mono-print pumpkins, adding permanent marker outlines, cutting them out, and adding construction paper stems. We are coloring leaves using warm colors and adding a scarecrow or Frankenstein in the background. We are learning new and different art-making processes. We are also doing the annual winter drawing for the newspaper.
1st grade- We have made a Halloween painting using tape and different methods of mark-making to create new textures to bring things to life. Next, we are starting a pop art project cutting out Keith Haring type figures and talking about how adding marks around objects can help movement. Our focus is exploring the different uses of materials and tools that we can use to create works of art and design. We are also doing the annual winter drawing for the newspaper.
2nd grade- We are going to start a project called Monster in my closet. We will be creating a door that opens and inside we are going to make a fun monster out of construction paper that sits off the page. Our focus is to make art or design with various materials and tools to explore personal interests, questions, and curiosity. They will be encouraged to sketch different monsters and add different accents to make it their own. We are also doing the annual winter drawing for the newspaper.
3rd grade- We are going to start a clay project using slabs. Our goal is to make a ceramic soap dish. The body of the soap dish will be made to look like leaves. We will then shape it and make feet for it to sit on, learning about joining techniques and how to make sure the clay will stay together after it is dried and fired. This is helping us work on Developing a work of art based on observations of surroundings such as fall leaves. They are also taking part in a drawing contest for their music program cover. Each student is given a class period to draw a cover design and one will be picked out to be the cover for the 3rd grade musical.
4th grade- We just finished up our haunted house drawings for Halloween, now we are going to be making a mixed media cityscape using watercolor for the sky and having 3 layers of construction paper that are different shades of grey to show depth. They will then create some kind of creature to add to the background of the city. We will be working with multiple mediums including two types of paints and construction paper crayons that will help add bold colors to the cityscape. They are also taking part in a drawing contest for their music program cover. Each student is given a class period to draw a cover design and one will be picked out to be the cover for the 4th grade musical.
5th grade- Art students have been learning about drawing with life like detail and using multiple tones to give the illusion of objects being 3D.
We will also be drawing a radial design. This design is used to create a color wheel. When creating the color wheel students will learn to mix colors and create smooth even lines with a paintbrush.
